Signs that you've tightened your throttle cable too tight

If you decide to tighten your throttle cable, I've found a couple of symptoms that were obvious that it was a little too much so.

a) Your idle will oscillate as the ECU attemps to lower it to normal
b) Idle is above normal 750rpm when engine is warm.
c) Throttle is jerky and too sensitive
d) Fuel economy is worse

I didn't think my cable was too tight, but after loosening it and following the FSM again, this time I got it right. For a while, I was thinking my throttle body might need cleaning, but it's fine.

well duh...sorry, but if you over tightened it then it will hold the TB open just a little bit and there is your problem. You should be able to see that when your doing it.

I've always done it this way:

I tighten the throttle cable until the idle goes up a touch, then back it off slightly. That way, there is a tiny bit of slack in the cable before it moves the butterflies. I really ought to look it up though and see if that's the proper way to do it.

When you say jerky and too sensitive, you mean when you are in 1st or 2nd gear right? I'm having this problem...

mine was realy slack when i got the car, where it goes over the half moon guide part of the throttle it was barely touching if any...not sure if that is they way it should be.
i made it tight to the point just before it opened up the throttle and its been fine, it was fine before when it was too loose too but now has more response

Yeah, throttle was really sensitive in 1st and 2nd gear. My throttle has two adjustment cables. Gonna check the FSM to see if the second one is a pre/post tensioner.

Another sign is the oscillating idle / idle above 750 when the engine is warm. Mine was at 1100. :bonk:

I don't mean to jack this thread but quick question, what kind of projectors did you use? Those are the best looking I've seen yet.
