redline hit 7,000 rpm's

today and felt the engine kinda cut off. first time i ever did that.should i be worried?

adithius Apr 15, 2005 10:36 AM

No It's fine. Dont make it a habit. I'm hoping that you had the sense to let go of the gas pedal.

absolutely did i let off the gas.it was a little shock for me for that to happen since ive never experienced it before.i just hope i didnt mess anything up.

NISMOPower Apr 15, 2005 10:55 AM

what's the highest anyone has ever brought it up more than once to on a stock motor......

Chief Brody Apr 15, 2005 11:18 AM

Krismax has a 8000 rpm redline I believe. A pic is in his signature.

JClaw Apr 15, 2005 11:23 AM

Yeah but kris is slightly deranged. He drills holes in his dash frame :nervous:

Bobo Apr 15, 2005 11:31 AM

Anyone who revs their motor to 7,000 without the benefit of say a JWT or TS ecu is slightly deranged, IMHO, lol!

how do u figure?>

NCSU_MAX Apr 15, 2005 11:38 AM

ive accidently done it before as well. your rev limiter should have cut the gas which is what made that weird noise. just dont do it anymore. :wiggle:

i didnt get no wierd noise it just cut off.

Bobo Apr 15, 2005 11:43 AM

Then if it just cut off, do it 25 times a day and see what happens after awhile. Report back later. Have you nothing better to do than try to destroy your engine? It will pay dividends if you don't continually try to flog it like a rented mule.

are you retarded? did you not read that it was my first time doing this and i was concerned about it.i baby my car.the only reason why i hit 7,000 rpm's was cause some prick passed me and cut me off so i had to pass his *** back.

crazy97 Apr 15, 2005 11:48 AM

Rattle, Rattle, Thunder, Clatter, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM!!! :nervous:

this is so familiar.... :grinno: he got under your skin too easy..pathetically predictable :slap:

Bobo Apr 15, 2005 11:53 AM

Just trying to get your attention. It obviously worked. I know it was an accident. Performance-wise you're better off not redlining the car, other than perhpas in 1st gear at the track. You want torque working in your favor for maximum performance.

Just pay attention to the tach and the sound of the engine and you'll be alright.

I have an old RX7 (1985 GSL-SE) with a 7K redline and those cars like to be flogged. They just go round and round, unlike a reciprocating engine.

But after 6500 your car isnt bulding any more power.

2 Da Max Apr 15, 2005 12:24 PM

yea but isnt it 500 more times the revolution if its redlining at 7k from 6500?

Bobo Apr 15, 2005 12:31 PM

It doesn't seem to mind and to get your attention there's a friggin buzzer that goes off when you hit 7K, causing you to back off.

maximas are slow dont bother racing

2 Da Max Apr 15, 2005 12:47 PM

lol werd i got blown way buy a 2k3 elantra

eckohb Apr 15, 2005 02:46 PM

2 da max...every post i see you make seems to be worthless. who cares about the extra 500 rpm if there is no power being made up there? you get blown away by a 2k3 elantra? wtf?

liqidvenom Apr 15, 2005 03:00 PM

well if ur pistons didnt fly through ur hood then im sure its ok.

i once got raped by a old kia hatch. it left me in the worst way going from 110-140. it had to be spraying or boosted. or maybe it was just that fast

maximazation Apr 15, 2005 03:25 PM

this happend twice while racing on the freeway, i missed 4th gear and WHAM, the tach went all the way to 8K, but it was really quick, so i dont really think the engine revved that high, and i dont even have a extended rev limiter, scared the sh!t out of me.

umm yeah Mr Obvious :wiggle: :hs:   :rolling_e

paultyler_82 Apr 15, 2005 04:38 PM

Um... negative, there's no way they should have beat you, that cheap Korean 4 banger only makes 138hp and 136 ft/lbs at 6000 and 4500 respectively, it was probably not stock, and the Spectra5 (the hatchback) has a curb weight slightly over 3000lbs for the manual and slightly under 3000lbs for the auto.

Batxel Apr 15, 2005 06:26 PM

according to edmunds the 2k3 elantra weighs in at 2635 vs the maxima's 3097 lbs. If you pack 2-3 people in the elantra and get beat then you have problems. Of course a dyno would be much better comparison than what the compaines say they have. I think with a newer car they would have developed more effective ways of getting the power from crank to the wheels.

thanks i didnt know

I30tMikeD Apr 15, 2005 08:31 PM

Please stop talking about Elantras and Kias

All you did was hit the rev-limiter. No harm done, that is why it is there so you don't over rev the motor.

I hit almost 10K rpm's once

2 Da Max Apr 15, 2005 08:47 PM

10k? holy shiet is it because of boost?

I30tMikeD Apr 15, 2005 09:13 PM

That is what happens when you shift into second at 100mph. It only happend once because that was the end of that motor

thisisausername Apr 15, 2005 09:23 PM

almost 10k? wow, ur lucky that didn't blow the motor. I hit 7.5k once when I was first learning stick. 3rd's a little notchy so I didn't notice when I accidentally hit 1st going 45mph....oops

NCSU_MAX Apr 15, 2005 09:24 PM

you took 1st gear to 100 mph  :bowdown1:

I30tMikeD Apr 15, 2005 09:28 PM

hahahahah...no I did not take first to 100mph. I took 3rd to 100mph then went into 2nd instead of 4th by mistake. And the motor did blow. Well, it did not blow up but it did enough damage to have to replace it.

CleanMAX98 Apr 15, 2005 09:52 PM

i tried to let my friend drive my 5 speed he somehow went from 4th to 2nd trying to downshift, the needle shot to 8000rpms i almost shyt myself the i had him pull over immediatly and i drove the rest of the way

I was studpid in the first place for letting him drive it :(

DAVE Sz Apr 16, 2005 12:13 AM

How did he manage to go from 4th to 2nd? Did he try going to 3rd, accidentaly went to the left into 1st, but since it was locked out he just went to 2nd thinking it was 4th?

Some people just suck at driving stick shift and dont realize the proper way to downshift. Thats my assumption.
