Budget Y-pipe question...
 

I hear people refering to there y-pipes as budget y-pipes but I'm very confused about what that means. Does "budget" mean that you got a cheap no name brand of y-pipe or is there a real company out there called "budget" that sells y-pipes for our Maximas? Someone please help clarify this for me. Thanks a lot!

You may notice that the reference was capitalized as Budget, hence a company not a cheap y-pipe. I have the Budget stainless steel y-pipe, purchased last June, and highly recommend it.

I got a budget Y-pipe stainless steel one....and I have "bees in the can" right now....wich I wasn't suppose to get with that kind of pipe.....any ideas??? :jeffy:

Are you sure its installed properly? Was the gasket that came with it used? You shouldn't have bees in the can sound. Do you have an OEM muffler or after market?

was it $200 CAD shipped ? I just did the currency conversion and I got it to be $157 USD ... How much did you guys pay for urs ?

The stainless steel y is Cdn$250 plus shipping.

wat does that equal in us dollars all of there #'s are in canadian anyway of converting it so i can know how much im spending for this thing

At current exchange rates its about US$200 or slightly less. Most credit cards factor in a premium on the exchange rate to allow for foreign exchange fluctuations, so you won't know what it costs in US$ until you get your statement.

I have budget y-pipe stainless steel and a flowmaster 40 series on it...with all new gaskets and bolts and sealant and,....everything is brand new and I hear it "buzzing" when I'm accelerating or either if I'm near a wall (on the highway) when accelerating....any ideas other than wrapping it?

That would drive me crazy. I thought if you wrap it then it eliminates 90% of the noise. The feared noise its whats really keepeing me from getting a y pipe. I like my car being smooth as butta.

Get rid of the muffler. The Budget y-pipe is not the source of the problem.

I hate noise with a passion. With the combination of a K&N panel air filter and Budget stainless steel y-pipe, I have no noise whatsoever at idle or when cruising. At WOT there is a slight growl which I must admit I like.

Upon startup, the car is a little noisier if you listen to the exhaust when standing outside the car. That is from the removal of two pre-cats which reduce emissions at startup.

For those people complaining about bees in the can with Budget y-pipes, I ask the question: What else have you done to the OEM exhaust setup that came with your car? Also, do you have a CAI or popcharger or hacked airbox?

iwas looking into the warspeed y-pipe am i gonna run into any kind of porlbem with the noise or no its all about how you install it

I visited the above site for the Y-pipe too, but all I found were stainless steel "F-pipe" .. no mention of Y-pipe on the site...
ALso is the stainless steel better than the aluminized one? what difference does it make.

They have a 1-800 #. Why don't you call them and speak to a live, warm body.

The F-pipe and Y-pipe are one and the same. Opt for the stainless steel version as it will last much longer, particularly given your Montreal winters. I believe an aluminized pipe would be prone to the same problems one would experience with a muffler over time, ie. rusting out.

I think a stainless steel pipe would be quieter than an aluminized pipe.

yeah, just pay the extra now for the SS. you won't regret it.

I don't think that the exhaust is the problem....the sound is coming from the front and not the rear...it's really the Y-pipe doing that sucking noise....I will try to find out some wrapping stuff and post it right away..BTW I have a cold air and flowmaster 40 series as setup..

Me too I had a growling noise. I did these:

1- fastened the y pipe at the bracket near the bell housing with a hose clamp, near where the original y-pipe was fastened
2- installed a new gasket between the y pipe and the cat
3- installed a new bracket to replace the previous cat bracket hanger that was all rusted out, and was not fastening the cat anymore because of rust
4- unfastened the rear b pipe near the brace, near where it bends 90 degrees towards the passenger side. I had put a clamp to stop the b pipe from hitting the brace when driving over rough roads. I removed both the clamp and that stupid brace.

The growling went away. Cant say which of the above caused it to go away, but I`m happy now. Hope it helps.
