need help troubleshooting

this has been going on now for some time and it has gotten more frequent. the squeaking seems to be coming from the front wheels on both sides. it only goes away after i hit the brakes but then comes back later as im driving. its becoming really annoying. i posted something like this before but got no reply. also im getting a vibration in the pedal when i accelerate. fyi im dropped on gc/illuminas and i need an alignment. does anyone know what both of these problems could be?

You need to get your pads changed immediately. Do it now before the squealers cut a hole into your brake rotors.

Do you get vibration when you brake hard say from freeway speeds?

MrDicks95SE 05-07-2005 01:50 PM

hmm okay ill change my pads soon and yes i get a mad vibration when i brake from 40+ mph.
so changing out the pads will eliminate the squeaking noises when im driving? seems too easy to be just that...

Change your rotor too! I just changed my rotors & pads yesterday and goodbye vibration! btw: your rotors are prolly warped that is why its vibrating

Also check and make sure your calipers are free to move. If the calipers stick on the guide pins that can cause the noise and warp the rotors. Also you may be able to get the rotors turned.

slide pins cannot warp rotors.

1) get the alignment
2) get the rotors cut
3) clean and regrease slide pins
4) also while your in there, clean and regrease any parts that make any metal to metal contact. (except for pad to rotor)
5) install new rotors.

okay thanks guys. my mechanic installed semi-metallic pads so i get a grinding sound everytime i brake. noisy and annoying but i have a lot of pad left. didnt know that could cause a problem.

a couple more questions: where are the slide pins located? and can i use lithium grease to regrease? what do you mean by cut rotors? (resufacing?) i think itd be easier to just get new rotors and pads together, right?
