Here's a hint - 99 ECU!

my friend put it in his car today, and will post more later!

:king2:

MDeezy May 12, 2005 06:21 PM

nice. 99 GXE? we need some 99 proof here.

2 Da Max May 12, 2005 07:07 PM

o shiet rev limiter for the 99ers

dcmaxclub May 12, 2005 08:12 PM

JWT ECU :)

extended rev limiter, timing fuel maps etc....

Ninos_Maxima May 12, 2005 08:20 PM

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^what?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!

Crockpot May 12, 2005 08:22 PM

<-- confused

BlueC May 12, 2005 08:29 PM

No way..........

dcmaxclub May 12, 2005 08:38 PM

It was the 96 swap from JWT. He'll post all the details tomorrow.

zazon May 12, 2005 09:21 PM

holy crap.

maxspeed96CT May 12, 2005 09:25 PM

SE.

My digicam is broken so the only pic I could get was from the cell. Maybe next week we'll be able to get some videos. It felt good though, especially in the upper rpms

tedo007 May 12, 2005 09:59 PM

WORD! whoa dude. need some more proof. im gettin excited

trust me.

I've been doing the max.org thing since back in 1998 (any of the real old heads in the dc section would remember me - eben, richard, addae, jaypee, jason etc..), and I wouldn't post some BS. I gotta keep my good name lol.

It's real.

jouvert00 will give all the details tomorrow :)

Flava_24/7 May 12, 2005 10:39 PM

I remember reading in the past that it could be done, just needed to have some rewiring done.
Is that what was done in this case?

GoalieKeg May 12, 2005 10:44 PM

Can't wait to see what the f he did to the wiring harness. :wall:

dcmaxclub May 12, 2005 11:08 PM

the wiring harness is fine. you have to move one wire to a different pin space, or splice into it and run a new wire to the other pin space.

maxspeed: donno if its a 99 or 99.5.

1FSTMAX May 12, 2005 11:20 PM

what about imobolizer bs? how was that by passed?

Dstyle May 12, 2005 11:38 PM

We hope you are prepared to give a lot more info on this!

Maximus_95 May 12, 2005 11:51 PM

but will that even help our performance considering how we lose huge amounts of hp towards high end ?

dcmaxclub May 13, 2005 12:17 AM

He'll give you more info. I would but:

1.) I don't know ALL of the details on what was done to fix the earlier problems / don't want to give bad info, and
2.) He needs the post counts haha (j/k Jason lol)

But I believe the reason it didn't work the first time did have something to do with the security system.

In addition to their solution to that issue, they wanted to make sure that the new connection to the fuel pump relay (the wire I was talking about switching) was good, so they made the change internally. Therefore, if there was another problem it wouldn't take hours to figure if it was due to the ecu malfunctioning or if jouvert hadn't switched the wire correctly.

So in his case, at this point anyway, it really is plug and play. Beside that I can tell you it felt good driving it :)

I don't know if the extended redline will help or not. It seems like it did in 1st and 2nd - at 7k shifting from 2-3 gave a nice chirp. I don't know if you would want to go that deep in the higher gears. There probably will have to be some time learning where to shift again for best performance, before it's known for certain. In any case the car feels faster overall, even if you don't take the new limit into account. Guess time will tell.

SPiG May 13, 2005 01:51 AM

Shifting that high without some kind of VIM(MEVI or -k) will not help you. But it is very nice to know you have the option.

ti2tmax May 13, 2005 03:54 AM

Ooh, I'm excited too! What about engine balancing at that higher RPM, I mean it's not much, but it is @1000 higher right? oh, maybe it's only like 600 huh?

So JWT made these changes to the ECU?
Which means they will be offering a program for the 99 maximas?
Also, without a VI, theirs no need to go any higher then 6500. Your not building any more more power past that.

jouvert00 May 13, 2005 07:46 AM

Hey guise it's now been confirmed the 99 max is now capable of running a 96 ecu.
For those of you who were following my previous posts, the actual problem that did not allow the 96 ecu to run was the "NATS" cam crank sensor wire needed to be reversed so the car will run also they manually linked pin 117 to pin 11 for the fuel pump control internally.
They also told me the internals may vary on the 99 models depending on production date. Anything more technical contact JWT they will answer any questions you may have.
The car feels much more responsive and stronger in all gears, it honestly feels like adding another y-pipe but with the extended rev limiter, and as DCMAXCLUB mentioned i now get a healthy tire chirp from 2-3rd gear which it never did before.
Overall it was srtessful with the back and forth but definitely worth it in the end.
1)All 99 models can benifit just let jwt know the production date of your vehicle.
2)price is still the same as the standard upgrade.
3)95/96 ecu can be used in the 99 but the 96 is better suited "probably will not throw a CEL".
4)my factory and after market alarm still works.
5)no cel thus far.

Now i can focus on the MEVI. :doublethu

meanbean May 13, 2005 08:17 AM

Whoo Hooo...Great news! Thanks for sharing.

THT May 13, 2005 08:19 AM

Wow...just another trump card JWT holds over TS.

DandyMax May 13, 2005 08:26 AM

That's certainly some good news for all the poor buggers with 99's (well until now they were). lol.

If only JWT weren't so slow!

Sorry I had to make a correction, That is not called CEll, It is called ECU.

Cel= Check Engine Light. i am sure you know that...

dahman45 May 13, 2005 09:11 AM

this is awesome!!!!!

Congrats man. i just had a couple quick questions.
1) how long did JWT take t o do the ECU?
2) IS your car a Fed spec 99 or a calispec 99
3)was it still needed for you to move the pins on the ECU harness or was it a plug and play and JWT did it all internally to the ECU?

chenzarino May 13, 2005 09:21 AM

One PLease!

1) It took a little over 2wks total
2) my car is a calispec 99, does not matter cali/fed will work.
3) jwt moved the pins internally no harness work involved just plug and play.

rimrocka0834 May 13, 2005 09:48 AM

This is all true guys i just got off the phone wit JWT and they said that now they can do since tehy figured out that all tehy had to do was move the pins. Im excited!!

deezo May 13, 2005 09:48 AM

Congrats to you 99 guys.

rimrocka0834 May 13, 2005 09:58 AM

hey jouvert00 u got an AIM cause i got sopme more questions

massfastmax May 13, 2005 10:04 AM

what gains does this actually give you and why would you want a 96 ecu over a 99

sterlingmaxima May 13, 2005 10:15 AM

This is what I have to say ****ing right i am soooo excited this was the one thing really that I hated about my car all 99 owners should rejoice :happyface
