F'ed up tach

95 5spd with a tach that goes to 7300 in first 7000 in second, if you race the engine in neutral, the rev limiter bounces when the tach gets to 4k. in any gear its about 6-8 hundred off. anybody know how the hell im supposed to fix that? Do i need an entirely new gauge cluster? i have to replace my CEL anyway, so should i get that done?
thanks for the help in advance

so um....does anyone know anything about this???

njmodi Jun 14, 2005 07:22 AM

Most likely the tachometer is bad - you'll need to replace the entire cluster.

if i do dont i have to get a dealership to spin to odometer? happen to know the cost of that?

You don't need to replace the whole cluster, all you have to replace is the rpm gauge, each gauge comes apart seperatly, and you can just buy that used, or find it new from the delaer, I will let you know if I can find you a used replacement for a reasonsable price, I will keep you updated.

Technically yes - but you could try to find one with about the same miles (from either a junk yard or here on the ORG - check the classifieds forum) and just swap it out. I imagine a new cluster or just the tach would be quite expensive - including the calibration - I would guess > $300.

thanks

i have ~103,000 miles on mine

if anyone could hook me up with one that would be nice

you can replace the the tach part, and leave your regular speedo, this way you just pop a new tach into your cluster and it will be perfect.

You wont have to change needles or anything..

sdoherty_tjm Jun 14, 2005 08:53 AM

i think the needle might be the problem though, cus when i turn the car of, it takes about three seconds to fully drop to the bottom
its reallly ****ing retarded
