Front Strut Housing mod...?
I was looking at http://maxmods.dyndns.org/index.php?MaximaShockMounts about shock mounts and it said that the front strut housing can be modified for increased travel. However, when I click on the hyperlink in the text, it takes me to some strange site. I'm just confused, I guess. Is there anything that can actually be done to the front mounts/housing to increase travel, whether it be a quick mod or actually buying something?
thanks for anyone who can clear this up for me. :chuckle: 86maxima96 |
What Motivational is doing is modifying the struts cartridges to handle shorter piston rods. Nothing is being changed on the mounts like is possible on the rears. For the $$ it's usually better getting shortened coilovers.

A 6th gen owner modified his lower mounts on his front struts by drilling new holes in them, dropping it down about an 1.5" as I remember. There was a bit more to it than that, but you get the idea.

3rd gen koni reds are shorter than 4th gen konis. http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....t=front+travel
i never got around to doing it. since the reds are not externally adjustable, i was just thinking of using the 4th gen yellows and cutting off the threads on the bottom and securing them differently. |
is it at all possible or even beneficial to add MZMTG's rear mounts to the front?
|
The 4th gen Koni's can have the bottom of the insert "removed" (shortened) then welded into a cut strut housing. That's what I have.
FYI, rear mounts are very different from Front ones (front's must turn with steering) |
ok, i figured that they couldn't be used but i'm just lookin for any option to increase front travel.

I don't remember what stock looks like off hand, but maybe you could trim the bumpstops to provide another 1/2 to 3/4"?
