Why does my new Y-pipe sound like a 1980s compact car with a hole in its muffler??
Anyone else have this prob? It sounds like shiet when I get on the throttle. It doesn't sound "clean" at all. And it's not BITC sound. It's different.
No digital camera with me to record the sound tho......... |
You probably have a leak - did you replace all the gaskets?
|
when u rev it or when ur on the road at WOT? does it sound like the the WS sound clip on vqpower?

Some Y-pipes come with three bung holes for oxygen sensors, but I think your Max only has two -- meaning, you've got an open bung hole. Plug it with an 18mm 1/2" bolt, a worn-out oxygen sensor, or a spark plug.
The other possibility is that the gaskets between the pipe fittings don't allow for a tight seal. |

kepler, does urs sound like the one in the sound clip? I don't think mine does. |
i could live with the sound on the clip, but mine sounds raspy not deep if it wasn't for the power i would put my stock one back on

Ok, I've come up with a different comparison...
a rattlesnake's rattle. lol :gotme: That's the best sound I can equate it to. I looked under the car the other day. Everything is A-ok. Firm and secure. Could it be the fact that the mechanic had to cut and weld a section of the y-pipe in order to make it fit? Maybe that's the culprit? |
