G-Force ecu upgrade! Like Woh...

What's up fella's,
I've had my Max since November and have been dying to get some times on my Max stock and then drop this UPRD/G-Force ecu in. This is the ecu from the Group Deal Cheston set up through MaximaDriver.com
I haven't dyno'd or nothin' like that (can't afford it right now) but here's how I did. I did not take anything extra out the car. These times are with spare tire in and stock wheels/tires.
I ran the car 3 times stock. My best time was a 15.67 at 90.22mph.
I ran the car 6 times with the G-Force ecu. My best time was 15.18 at 91.67mph.
For $425, I was pretty impressed with the gains. So what do you think?
By the way, what's up to Vital. Nice to meet you at the track last Friday. Holla...

judging that you only increased 1 mph .. i would say that your launching techniques improved.. not the ECU

Re: Maybe...
theblue ran 14.8 with only a catback
i ran 15.1 with only a CAI
and i ran 14.7 with CAI and y pipe

Hmmm you may have a point. But what are stock Max's running? I highly doubt there running 15.1's.

Then I've got two questions:
1)What do 4th gen 5spds run stock?
2)Because it's my only mod, am I getting the full potential?
3)Because I literally put it in at the track, does the ecu need additional time to adjust to the car?
Ok, I asked 3 questions

A bone stock 5spd should be running 15.4's driven well in normal conditions. Intake, Y, Exhaust should put you 14.9 - 15.0 driven normal. 14.7 and 14.8 are runs achieved from extremely well prepared vehicles, with good launch techniques, and good conditions (track, weather, etc.)
Note about the trap speed. 5spd Maxima's have a problem when 1/4 mile running. Our 3rd gear starts dropping power about 200 feet before the finish line. Thus, you can either redline it in third or shift to 4th, either way you're stuck either way. Until you get mad power to make it get to 4th quicker, the traps won't rise too much more, you can just help yourself get to the end of third faster (and hold it), or drop a couple MPH and go into 4th to regain it.

Now that sucks! That's the one other thing that I was hoping I would gain with the upgraded ecu was was an extened redline. I know in some of the ecu's that are availabe for other brands (i.e. hondas) that the upgrade will increase the redline. Oh well...
Other then picking up an intake, this will do it for my performance mods for this year. My focus will be the suspension. Holla...

Anyway, I must've had a tail-wind the day my '96 Auto hit 15.385 seconds...
Which brings me to my next question BrianV, what's the optimal shift points for the 1/4 on the Max? Redline 1st/2nd and 2/3 shift then short of redline on 3/4?
-V
btw, did you get new rims?

you didn't ask me but
for me
1 - 2 = 6000 rpm
2 - 3 = 6300 rpm
3 - 4 = 6300 rpm
for me
1 - 2 = 6000 rpm
2 - 3 = 6300 rpm
3 - 4 = 6300 rpm

Hmmm, that's really strange that your car ran better with a lower 1st gear shift point. I don't know of any manual car that you rev lower in 1st than all the others to get the best et. I might adjust my 1st gear a little lower next time.
My shift points are dependant on the weather. In hot weather my car is notably slower (.3-.4 slower) so I hold on to 3rd. In cooler weather I grab 4th. The way I determined the best shift points is by using my dyno printout.
1-2 6500
2-3 6200 (or redline in hot weather)
3-4 6000
Extending your redline is meaningless because the VQ motor lacks the ability to breath after 6000rpms in 3rd and 4th. For example, my car only makes 145fwhp at 6500rpms and even less torque. Revving past 6200 is futile unless you're in 1st (torque multiplication) or you've got "boost".
Running 14.7s in a Maxima isn't too hard and doesn't take many mods nor rice-boy gutting. It's all dependant on how well you get off the line. My best runs did occur in cooler 55-65 degree weather. My track setup is as follows:
1/3-1/4 of gas
26 psi front and 40 psi rear
front Koni's struts to firm
no spare or jack
all runs on my 16" street rims and all season tires
If you guys want to improve your trap speed, try a set of 205/50R15 drag radials. The much lower profile should give you a bit more torque multiplication and the ability to actually use 4th gear. These will be next as soon as I get my pulley on.

Hey guys you can source ECU's from Australia for $380US don't know if it's worth the trouble but here's the link

I'll be interested to see how I do next time out. It seems clear to me that I should have run at least a few more times stock, before I put in the upgraded ecu to ensure I just wasn't continuing to improve on my times.
I do understand that the this particular ecu does take sometime (a week or so) to "get comfortable" with the Max. (hey, I'm no mechanic so I'm going on "hear say" and speculation) It sounds like with a little better driving and me taking all the rest of the crap out my car (spare tire, etc.) that at least for my Max, that 15 flats or high 14.9's are possible.
Dave B. - I'm also gonna try those launch times as well. I have basically been pushing to redline at every shift.
