Nearly FRIED my ECU while code checking ...
I've had the 0304 Bad Knock Sensor(KS) code for a while ... got a replacement
When i tried to check the codes before replacement, I nearly FRIED my ECU.
To check codes your meant to turn the CheckScrew on the of the ECU, well my screwdriver must have touched something dodgy because the dash lights flickered, relays clicked, eek .. .lucky she fired up.
Leasons Learned.
1. Buy a code reader if you intend to regularly check your codes
2. If you just use the CheckScrew, then use a Plastic screwdriver/tuning stick (VCR's used to come with them from memory). And DON'T turn to roughly as you will break the plastic stops which guide the CheckScrew
3. Always clean and check connections before buying parts I checked the connector of my KnockSensor and it had oily/grease deposits on the terminals .. cleaned those up and car seemed like Knock Sensor was fixed. Can't confirm knocksensor is now being seen by ECU due to CheckScrew being broken
So I've still got my old KS in which is testing within range, am ordering a CodeScanner for $AUS140 (http://www.plmsdevelopments.com/consult_if.htm)
Having a spare KS is not so bad as apparently the KS can still measure (in Ohms) as being working but actually not working.
Becareful out there

what he said ^^^^^^^^^
and i dunno about you guys with your right-hand drive cefiros, but on my 95, the only thing "dodgy" near the ecu is the gas pedal. which i have yet to see, when jumped, make relays go click and dash lights flicker.

when i check my ecu codes my head is under the steering wheel so i don't know how you saw your dash while turning the screw unless you have long arms. maybe thats why your screw driver slipped cause your trying to look at your dash while turning the screw

I knew it was something bad as I had the radio on low.. it cut out and back, heard some relays click off then back on, and I'm pretty sure I looked up and across the car to see the dash lights flicker once
Just ordered my code reader
