Why is my car slow?????

Hey all, im seriously getting sick of this car... it just doesnt want to move sometimes.. i have 99k on it perfect condition no MIL complete tune up 2 months ago and the car still is f*cken slow.. entering the highway is horrible and initial acceleration is crap too... wtf is going on here? i want to say its on of the computers because it shifts erratically sometimes too.. (i just replaced the transmission with a new one so i know the trans is good)

What is the fuel economy like relative to before? Precisely what was done 2 months ago during the tune-up. Perhaps its something like the MAF or ignition coils.

Have the following been replaced recently: oil & filter, spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter, PCV valve?

Have you run any Chevron Techron through the fuel system?

Assuming you run 91+ octane, run seafoam and clean the throttle body. When was the last tune up? Plugs, fuel filter, air filter etc? Also check for slackness on your throttle cable and crankshaft position sensor. Transmission may still be a problem, check fluids.

well i did a tune up 2 months ago... plugs, fuel air filter, pcv valve, clean tb..seafoam regularly...and always run 93 or 94 octane and yet this car refuses to get any faster.. when its hot out it doesnt move period same thing if i drive it for a while... and its especially bad if i have other people in the car.

Not to ask the obvious, but even though the CEL is off, did you check to see if your have the 0304 knock sensor code?

do you have a check engine light on? if you don't check your ecu anyway to see if you have a knock sensor ghost cel. might be a knock sensor. that usually kills performance.throw a bottle of that fuel system cleaner from pep boys in a tank of gas. it should help clean your injectors ,etc.. not saying that will solve your problems but it will help your fuel economy and performance if you keep up with it.

Define slow..BTW. I know you said you put a new trans in it recently. If your engine speed (revs) goes up quickly while you're driving, but you're still MOVING slowly, you may just wanna check that tranny again....Auto or Manual? You also said it was shifting erratically....

slow being it having to hit the gas harder to get the car to move.... when i give it gas the trans downshifts but i feel my self pushing the gas harder and harder... i can feel the motor straining to produce power.. its like the car wants to go but it cant

i know how you feel. my brothers max does the same thing. it almost feels like the fuel injectors are clogged and the motor is acceleratoring very slow no matter how hard you push the pedal. i would try putting in some fuel injector cleaners for the next 2 gas fill up and maybe change your spark plugs and fuel filter.

If your gas mileage sucks too I would say knock sensor since the tune up seems up to date. Definitely check for codes.

Get a dyno and see if it is indeed down on power, or you're just used to a f550maranello.

im thinking its either a coil pack or an injector.... the trans works fine when it downshifts the car has no power... after the downshift i can almost floor it and the car doesnt go any faster from 1/2 throttle to full throttle

It sounds like timing is off making your ECU retard. But VQ's run chain so it might just be your fluids are low in the tranny.

no like i said the fluid is perfect condition cuz i just changed it last weekend... its the correct level... the car doesnt burn any oil whats so ever... and still it freaken pisses me off when it takes 1/2 throttle to take off.. im always the last car to go from red lights.. it sucks and whe worse part is that the dealer has no clue whats going on... the only things that i can think of are like i stated above coil pack or an injector... one thing that i hear when i lay on the gas is the EVAP canister purge control valve it makes a lot of noise..

i'm thinking the tranny u got is no good....one of the reasons the trannys go bad is beacause the tranny fluid gets to hot u could get a cooler for it......and did u get the tranny at the junk yard or did u get it rebuild?

Did you use NGK plugs when you had the tune up.

Do you have a giant system in the trunk, ac on, tools in the car, towing a boat??? I have a bad knock sensor and my car still picks up better then people at the stoplight. Does it sound like it's shifting into the right gear? At 1/2 throttle it might just be sticking in 2nd gear?? probably not the fluid getting to hot. In phoenix, on days like today where it got 112 or some god awful number, my tranny still operates fine. The car does lag a little, but that im guessing is because the whole engine bay is heat soaked before its even turned on. Who did your tranny replacement? I used bosch plugs and the car works fine... NGKs just cost less right? Oh and they are the stock ones... But whatever. Oh you're from Il, so its also humid as a mother too, that might have some to do with it. Or your car could just be acting dumb to find another owner.

I still think its the knock sensor too. Id double check that with a OBDII scanner. My car felt exactly the same way when i got it. I thought there was no way in hell it should feel like it did. I didnt have a CEL light but i scanned it anyway. I had a P0325 code and i changed the knock sensor out this last weekend. It feels so MUCH better now being more responsive, better mileage and way better acceleration.

I don't like how most of you are telling him to just replace parts at random. He has no farken codes.

See if you can find a few auto max's and test drive it. It may just be the "lag" us auto owners experience.
Maximas are not fast and never will be unless you dump a good chunk of money into it. And even then, it's just straight line performance. I know most of you like to think other wise, but it's the truth. We drive family sedans, not sports cars.

Try what NmexMAX suggested, auto with no mods should be around 155hp to the wheel. Double check stickies in the dyno forum to confirm that. Test drive a few similar maxs if you can, to compair. It just might be, you own a typical auto max and it's running fine. You might be expecting too much from your max. I never expected mine to be fast, it wasn't designed to be.

Get a new car. Maybe a Ferrari 550 maranello, which is my favorite model in their line. My car is super fast for a 4 door family car.

You should have compression checked, and test each coil pack. Remove you're plugs and re - install them, make sure they were all put in properly. Check all sensors to see that they are connected properly. Disconnect the knock sensor harness and see if it starts to get even slower or if there is no change, then see if you can do the resistor mod and if it helps if it does then maybe its the knock sensor. And also, WHAT KIND OF PLUGS did you put in? If they are not oem ngk's or ngk plat's consider removing them and replacing with NGK's. Try manually shifting gears to see if it gets any faster. There's a possibility that the torque converter is locked up in a high gear.

Yes, maximas can be somewhat slow if you drive a stock GLE with a bad knock sensor and fourteen dead bodies in the trunk.

i couldnt agree more.. if this guy listened to half of these friggin people on here, he'd be better off buying a new car..

number one rule on this website.. take into consideration whos giving you advice.. half these guys are probably in some kind of h.s. auto class, or just changed their own oil once or twice.
