o2 sensor not working at first, but now working?
ok 6 months back, my service engine soon light came up. I checked the error and it was a front right o2 sensor. I also went to autozone and got an obd-ii checkup. They said the exact same thing. I knew I would get bad gas mileage so I cleared the error. Today I decided to check it and before I bought I did a obdii check again. This time it said everything is working fine with no problems. I was still certain that my o2 sensor was bad so I bought one sensor and tookit home. At home, I checked the volatge coming in as described in haynes reapir manual with my voltmeter. I got about 700-800 mv. How could it stop working 6 months back and work now? Its really wierd.
Also I checked for continuity on my knock sensor. There was nothing. Can knock sensors affect fuel mileage?

The sensor might be getting intermittent - it is not unheard of. I had an O2 sensor CEL a year or two ago, I reset the ECU and then the code didn't reappear for almost a year...but it did come back... you can just wait for the CEL to post again... no harm done.
And a bad KS will affect your fuel mileage.

Yeah i'm running in to that as well. I think it may be a small surge to the computer system then it sets off the check engine light. That's what i think. I bought a new one for about 90 bucks because my dad gets a discount but normally they are 130 but i still don't think that i need to put it in. the one thing that i should do is make sure that the O2 sensor is removeable. So i'm not going to replace it for now at least.

Lot cheaper here: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=289189&page=7
AutoZone still shows the Bosch universal one in the front for only 20 bucks
O2 sensors do get worn so if you have high mileage on your car and getting bad gas mileage then replace the front ones (only the front ones control the air/fuel ratio)

how bad can ks affect mileage i get about 250 miles in 14 gallons which is pretty bad. I wanted to pump it to about 350 miles. Any way thats gonna happ?
Also I rechecked the o2 sensor and the ohms on the fron is 8.2. Isn't that a bit high. So do u think the o2 sensor is bad or normal?

It said no problems because in the process of checking you're codes you reset the light. Just replace all of the o2 sensors, and the knock sensor if you're mileage is anywhere near 100k. This way you won't have to worry about them PERIOD.
