When starting car after i reset my ecu, it sputters & starts as if the batt was dead!

ok i noticed once or twice when i would reset my ecu and i did it inccorect, the car would start and shut off because the idle would drop, as if there was a vacume leak. But that always goes away after i reset the screw

now the other day just after i reset my ecu when i turn the key, all the lights on the dash light up dim and slow as if the battery was dead, but i could still hear the engine turn over, i also dont hear ANY clicking noises. i just changed my starter 10k miles ago anyways.

now ive been playing with the ecu screw all day and no luck, i mean i didnt break it because the screw still stops at its limits. sometimes i would get the screw in the correct spot and it would start perfect, then next couple of starts it would give me problems.

if its not the battery is it the ecu screw? i highly doubt its the battery. or maybe its the altenator? ?? need help plz

Man you seem to have the bad luck with your Max :run: I reckon you should splash out in future and get a OBD/Consult scanner.. I nearly fried my ecu when the screwdriver slipped on the CheckScrew .. I have the Consult cable now and its a real life safer in comparison.

You say no clicking.. but the clicking (IMO) is the relays activating to send power to the starter

What voltage does your battery read at?

i have on idea i didnt check

are you serious? fry the ecu?? wtf

yep, gave me a hell of a scare... I had the screw driver and I was leaning down there poking the screwdriver in the hole to turn the screw, I figure I missed the screw and contacted the ECU board or something as there was big *** spark .. I'm sure I saw the dash lights flicker as well

I actually have no idea where the CheckScrew is pointing now, its not actually a screw but a potentiometer.. (aka varible resistor ) so I think the plastic screw face must have come off...

Does anyone know FOR SURE what the symptoms are of not turning the Checkscrew back to the left after diags?

it has to be to the left!! oh crap

6. With a flat head screwdriver, turn the ECU selector screw clockwise until you feel it go against the stop.

7. After waiting for at least 2 seconds, turn the selector counter-clockwise until it's stop. "

fyi: in the pics on vbmaxima you can quite clearly see the screw, on my JDM ecu the screw is countersunk so you really can't easily see it from the outside

i did that to clear it, but is it ok if i just turn it all the way to the left and ignore the proces?

Just turn the ECU screw all the way to the left (anti-clockwise) until it hits the stop. You should be set :mardi:
