increasing low end

I'm a 3rd gen VG guy and I was curious about increasing my low end. The reason I am posting in the 4th gen forum is because I was discussing this issue with a guy who had a 96 and he said that people woth 4th gens wonder the samething, something like after they put in a cone filter or such, they lose a little low end and they want to know why this is happening. Well, I guess someone suggested putting their stock air box back on and they got the low end power that they had been missing out on. What do you guys think?

Is this thread clarifying that after market intakes decrease low end a bit, or is it asking how to increase low end?

I am not doubting that they are decrease the low end, I am just asking if what I heard had any truth to it and also how to increase low end

There are many threads that discuss this in detail, more detail than what it's worth IMO.

Low end power = torque .. big torque = larger displacement. easy way out, larger holes under the hood.

When dealing with an engine, no matter the size, there are limits as far as low end power production goes (torque) in relation to its displacement. But at the other end, (high RPM), there's much more you could do when trying to add power when keeping the same displacement.

So, what's 'low end power' to you. i.e. what RPM range,

its an auto so right after take off to about the 3rd gear....not sure hat the rpm is

Uh...you're going through the entire powerband then if you're at WOT. Do you mean you want more power under 3,000rpms? If so, an ECU upgrade is really your only choice and will only increase power at WOT when the ECU is in open loop.

Ok, cool. Thanks for the info guys :wavey:

Well, i hear turbos can give you some torque :)
