car sputtered and died and won't start... maf?
 

hey ok so my car was sputtering and then would die at idle. i got to school and when i was leaving the CEL went on so i went to autozone and it read maf malfunction. the car wouldn't start, then randomly did after i reset the code and ran fine the whole day. got to downtown boston and car wouldn't start no matter what. had to get it towed to my dads mechanic to look at it on monday. can the MAF make the car not start at all? i remember forgetting to plug it in a while back and the car ran really bad but still ran, now it won't start at all, like cranks but won't start. anyone??

yeah mine did the exact same thing...my MAF is bad or going bad or needs to be re-wired..but anyway. i fixed my problem.. it ended up being the crank sensor. There are two on our cars.. the POS (position sensor) and REF (refrence sensor) if the REF goes the car will run but run like crap,but if the POS goes then it wont even start! so check those and check the MAF, it might be both, mine was and now is just the MAF. good luck!

The car should start and run with a bad MAF.
Usually RPM's are limited to around 2500.
