ok, here's what happened

I was riding home from Home Depot....just cruisin bumpin to some new Three 6....posted speed limit was 45. I was doing probly 45-50. My phone was in my pocket, it started to vibrate....

I didnt take my eyes off the road up until the fcuking antenna got stuck on the tip of my pocket. I looked down to get it loose....looked up, and the car in front of me was braking....but they were braking a LOT harder than it looked like. As soon as I could, I hit the brakes and cocked the wheel right (into the turning lane) -- wheels locked up and I slid for about 15 feet into a Camry's rear quarter panel....POW

Cited for following to closely.....and now my Max is beyond f-ked up. I drove it home, mechanically...it's the exact same as yesterday. But it's all cosmetic damage.....seems to be slightly serious. I dunno......

And I know some of you will ask......I dont fully know what Im going to do w/ the car....

-fix it and keep it?
-fix it and sell it?
-part it out?

No I wasnt high or drunk......but yep, it was my fault. I wouldve NEVER thought this would happen to me, as Im always alert, and never had a wreck before this.

All you need is a good buff job. I am sure you know someone that can hook up a decent quick buff job.

****ing hillarious........

dude thats not the kind of crap i need right now

Dubbya Oct 25, 2005 02:47 PM

Sorry man. I know it sucks but I couldnt resist. Ive been in your shoes a couple of times now.

1. A dood with no insurance smashes the passenger side of my ride.

2. Hail damage totalled the car.

3. Hit a 4runner for the exact same reason you did but the rear mounted tire only took out my grill and folded my hood.

It all sucked but life goes on.

MDeezy Oct 25, 2005 02:48 PM

It looks worse than it is. From the pics, new hood, fender (s?), front bumper, radiator support bar?, axle, control arm, bushing etc, headlight(s) (?),

Thats probably going to be in the 1K range depending on how you shop for parts, could be less could be worse. Pull your resources see if people dont have extra parts there willing to give or sell for a good price.

Glad your alright. I say keep and fix it up. "Many hands make light work"

drew76924 Oct 25, 2005 02:50 PM

y r u selling your 03' ... that happend to me 2 cept some old guy pulled out in front of me however mine cosmetically had a messed up quarter panel and my bumper was messed up and mine was tottaled because one of my frame rails was bent so check and see if its bent
sry to hear about that :mecry: good luck

Maxima99SE Oct 25, 2005 02:50 PM

I can't believe that man . .. best of luck with everything

|Bijan| Oct 25, 2005 02:52 PM

Marlin......

If Im correct......bumper, fender, hood - FOR SURE.
Radiator/Headlight bracket support beam......for sure

Lots of body work and some QNO.....I think I'll be fine.

Drew, it's not MY '03......its a friends.

Its just the location of the impact....its hard to tell if there's frame damage or not.

NmexMAX Oct 25, 2005 02:53 PM

It's even lighter now :gotme: :bustrun: ..

Sucks monkey ****, but I agree with MDeezy ...isn't as bad as it looks ... What kind of coverage you have?

A Flood99 Oct 25, 2005 02:55 PM

i take it my corner light got straight jacked up lol

.

After I hit a deer a while back I thought I needed a new radiator support bar, I shopped around, anda few junk yard would sell for $70-$100. Much cheaper that I thought it would be.

Junkyards would be your best friend, the most expensive part would be the paint. As long as there is no frame damage, keep it. ATL peeps I'm sure wouldnt mind offering a hand to fix it up. Your front suspension is all fine no damage?

THEJEFFERATOR Oct 25, 2005 02:56 PM

sorry bout your car bro, but it looks worse than it really is. since you seem very mechanically inclined, you could have a body shop weld in new structural supports and do most of the other work yourself. do you have collision ins.? suspension ok? airbags deploy?

looks like a nice car, i would fix it or get another and swap parts........jeff

NCSU_MAX Oct 25, 2005 03:00 PM

you gotta keep and fix that bad boy Bijan.... its one of the best looking on the Org :)

Jefferator -- I worked at a body shop for like 2 weeks......learned a little bit, but yea my suspension, airbags, wheels.....oh yea, and me.....are all ok.

motocross416 Oct 25, 2005 03:00 PM

how's the frame of the car? is it just the support beam that's damaged or is it more severe.

That sucks, you car looked amazing

konak85 Oct 25, 2005 03:02 PM

i was in a similar situation. hope it works out well dude.

lilaclucymaxima Oct 25, 2005 03:37 PM

That sucks man, sorry to hear that. It's scary that all it takes is that half a second of not paying attention... sucks that it happened to one of the better looking maximas on the org. Good luck with whatever it is you do.

Bobo Oct 25, 2005 03:58 PM

Sorry to see your misfortune! Toss the cell phone out.

drew76924 Oct 25, 2005 04:10 PM

ya make sure and check your frame rails i didn't think mine could have really been bent but i barly hit the guy so forsure get in there and check it out

goldtooth Oct 25, 2005 04:13 PM

This is society's fault. If cell phones wouldnt have gotten so popular, then not many would have phones to disturb them. Therefore, no distractions. Therefore, no crashing.
:chuckle: :grinno:

007max Oct 25, 2005 04:25 PM

thats definitely fixable, so don't even think about getting rid of the car :squint:

it looks like the hardest part will be replacing the panel that the fender bolts to (no idea what its actually called). you will have drill out the spot welds on the old one, find a new one somewhere, and then weld it in place. you're lucky the suspension didn't get jacked at all. that was the biggest PITA on my car, it took forever to replace every suspension component that was dammaged when i got in my wreck. all the components looked normal, but the wheel was an inch too far to the rear. the suspension work turned out to cost more than the bodywork in the end, because it had to be disassembled so many times while all the tweaked components were replaced to finally get it back into spec

good luck

THEJEFFERATOR Oct 25, 2005 04:26 PM

good news, i saw a couple aftermarket rad supports online for around $60. havent found the front left side frame rail yet, or the strut mount panel...but i can't tell from the picks if that may be repairable once you cut away the other pieces. i'm thinkin if you can find somebody to weld the new parts on and find the rest of the body parts and lights cheap, a little paint and your good...

btw...glad YOU are ok too....

Kta920 Oct 25, 2005 04:35 PM

Sorta OT: I hate it when cell-phone-drivers don't pay attention - driving too slow; merge into your lane w/o signaling, etc.

I remember one time a cell-phone-driver in the opposing lane and I arrived at a 4-way stop sign intersection at the same time. We stop, and as I proceed to cross the intersection, he proceeds to make a left-hand turn right in front of me at the same time (no signal of course, since he was on the phone)! We stop inches from each other in the middle of the intersection. The ****er still did not put down the phone for one second and has the audacity to glare and give me a dirty look. OMG, I wanted to get out my car and shove the phone down his throat.

VIP Maxima Oct 25, 2005 05:36 PM

dude it looks pretty bad but its all cosmetic damage. new fender, hood and bumper and ur set.......... funny thing is the lip is not damaged :)

also start makin a habit of emptyin ur pockets when u get into the car. thats the first thing i do

kcryan Oct 25, 2005 05:38 PM

Sorry man...

vortechpower Oct 25, 2005 06:05 PM

try the junk yard. do you really nead fender, bumper and a hood to drive? Thats gotta be 100 lbs. J/K... Hammer down that hood to save for carbon fiber, or actually who was the guy that got a carbon fiber hood that took over 3 months to get! Get his old one from him! Check with that russian guy about fenders, remember fromthe meet in december the guy that had the accord headlights? I think he had some fenders with vents in them... Didn't you get new headlights not too long ago? You have the old ones? :bill:
SH!T HAPPENS , better things will come!

Its definatly going to be over 1K, but it is fixable.
The cheap, fast way would be to get the parts from the yard, the paint wouldnt be the best if it even matched at all. thats weher the $$$ comes in to effect. QNO is expensive.

Sorry to see your max like that bijangxe, keep your head up,bite the bullet and just pay the deductible then let the insurance fix it.

liqidvenom Oct 25, 2005 07:11 PM

i guess its time to drive the truck

QNO is really really expensive. Bijan that sucks dude. Definitely fix it. Its your decision to part it out, but you still get to drive the Titan around.

MANG!! Bijan sorry to hear about the accident mang! That is how I lost my first car took my eye off(looking at a chic in my rearview mirror that I was trying to hook up with) the road for a second then bam the car in front of me was braking and it was too late.

I got some amber bumper lights if you need them for cheap. Let me know if you need some other aftermarket parts I can cal my uncle to see if he can get some good prices. Give me a call if you need help. I got some jacks and plenty of tools.
