Alternator's last days?
I accidentaly drove through a huge puddle last week, when there was all of that rain down here in Florida. So basicaly I flooded my engine bay and pulled over. Opened the hood and everything was fizzin...i expected that....but also herd a whining noise comming from the alternator side. Drove real slow and two days later the noise was still there and now im worried about it. Its deffinately the alternator, a little gas and i hear it louder, otherwise the car seems to be just fine.
Suggestions? :ugh: |
You have two choices.
1) Replace the alternator 2) Put new bearings in the alternator If you don't feel comfortable pulling the alty apart for a mini rebuild, refer to selection #1. EDIT: It wasn't the water that caused the issue. Their built to withstand a hose down and the bearings are sealed units. Actually everything stock in your engine compartment is built to withstand a hose down. |
Correct a hose down. That was like a submerge. And I know that that noise was not there before. Positive that it had something to do with that puddle.
But thanks for the info...and what if I dont do anythig? |
