Reason for Maxima's Premature tire wear? Who has some snow tires?
I have been reading alot of reviews from edmunds.com on our Maxima's. Alot of drivers complain about tires going bad around 25k - 30k mi. I have also experienced bad tire wear on the 1996Se I sold last month (Well actually, I needed an alignment).
Today I put a down payment on a 1999 Maxima SE. Here is the listing: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT Seller was only about 30 mins away! The listing states the toyo proxies he put on the car is "chopped on inside edges..." Talking to him he says it may be a "wheel bearing problem". Whats your opinion? I guess I'm going to end up bringing it to a dealer to get a thorough run down on the car (it has a check engine light problem also). Is there any mods that would help reduce tire wear. I understand its probably mostly due to the way people drive. Additionally, I know this isn't the classified part, but if anyone has any snow tires for sale... I am interested them. The seller of the Maxima I just bought said the Proxies are terrible in the snow!! |
alighnment? anyway im over in rochester if u ever need some extra hands let me know

thats not as bad as my moms new acura TL...those bad boys are horrible the tires wear out about ever 15k miles....expensive little boogers too

as long as alignment is in spec, tire wear should be atleast even.

Chopped on inside edges is usually a suspension problem related to the shocks/struts. I'd venture to say that the shocks need replacement and it needs re-aligned.

25 - 30 thousand miles on performance tires is perfectly normal tread ware.
The cupping inside edge can point to a few things. 1 - Lack of tire rotations 2 - Incorrect alignment 3 - Worn struts 4 - Balancing At 123,000 miles, I'd put a new set of struts/shocks all around and get the car aligned. Throw a new set of rubber up front to quiet things down and drive it for another 100K miles. Good luck with your purchase. |
