I've seen it on a few rides and thought it was pretty neat looking, to have the car battery moved to the trunk. I was just wondering if anyone has tried this and maybe knows of the best way to send the cables and/or if anyone would be interested in seeing before and after pics thanks

i would only recommend it if you need the space for something else in the engine bay or something. otherwise, more work than it's worth. my .02, i guess.

well the interior is mostly out (seats/ rugs ) and while the car is down and im awaitng parts ( massair flow sensor / knock sensor ) I may play around w/ the idea, ya other wise i dont think it would be something I would put my self through

I am under the impression that you want as little weight shift to the back for straight line acceleration in a front wheel drive car. It would help for weight distribution in turning situations.

most people transfer it to the trunk and you can put it in a case. they also do this if you have more than one for a big stereo setup. a 25lb battery moved to the rear isn't gonna make too big a difference performance wise. i say just leave it where it is unless you have a good reason to move it. what's wrong with where it is?

Ya its headed for the trunk, i just wanted to free up some space under the hood. And although it may help a tiny bit, if at all, w/ the weight distribution thats not my main objective, just messing w/ a few things while the car is outta commission.

k. make sure to get a case that hold the battery in place and covers it completely to prevent slidding and acid spillage. also, looks better. good luck running the cables

Some of the larger batteries are over 40lbs so that's a considerable amount of weight to move and change the balance of the car. Running all that cable adds some weight too if you do it that way.

Battery in the trunk is sweet... allows you to change starters, KS, and do many other maintenance items with ease, engine has much more room in the bay... However, my 95 came with this done so thats the best part...

You plan to stick a midget in your engine bay or something?? A member moved his battery to the trunk of the car to allow more room for his cool air intake setup which btw looks very interesting. I'm not sure how functional it actually is. Other than that.....why even hassle with it?

Moving the battery is mostly down in car audio setups. If you're going to do it, make sure to do it right. First and foremost, get an optima or other sealerd battery to prevent any spillage. Secondly, make sure all connections back under the hood are run with at least 1/0 gauge wire. Lastly, make sure it has both a local ground and the grounds under the hood.

I was the member that moved his battery for the sake of my cool air intake. Its not really beneficial to do unless you require a lot of extra room. You can use 2 awg cable to run the battery. 4 awg will even work, but you may experience voltage drops with all of the accessories running. Keep your ground short and find a really good one. I grounded mine to the rear bumper support. The hardest part was finding a proper ground. It has to be a chassis ground or it will short out. I tried body grounds at first and they work for a while, but quickly short out.

I have now revamped my whole system and ran 1/0 awg to the battery with an extra 4 awg used in part of "The big 3" electrical boost system. I used a GM side post extended bolt with ring terminals and grommets to make a battery jumping post in the engine bay. It also gives me a reference to connect accessories directly to the battery such as HID lights, etc. Hope this helps!
