Antenna Broken! Motor runs, but antenna doesn't.

Anyone successfully fixed their antenna? I hear the motor running when the radio turns on, but the actual antenna doesn't move. Is there an easy way to fix this or is there an easy way to replace the unit? Thanks.

I bet the the antennas either fallen out of the track or its stripped. You have to look back inside the truck i think near where the jack is to check it out.

It's that EZ, The hardest part is prying out the existing retainer supporting the stock mast this part needs to be reused, don't sweat it the instructions the mast comes with are good. Turn the retainer out using bullnose pliers or something similar like it's threaded even though it's not. You'll see two notches. My new mast even froze in minus degree weather and didn't go all the way down, once it thawed it worked again no probs. They look identical to factory. Cheap!

i did it myself in like 20 minutes. nothin to sweat about, you'll be fine

Well, speaking for those of us who don't do our own work, I'm having the mast assembly replaced right now. Gotta have my radio working, and that sound of rocks grinding that comes from it was getting on my nerves.....

Make sure the antenna is all the way down. Then unplug the antenna motor. The antenna unit is the most usless piece on the Maxima. The cold always messes it up. The radio reception without it is good enough.

AZMaxima53 Dec 28, 2005 10:31 AM

Not where I am. First, I'm in sunny AZ-- I don't think it's a cold issue. And, AM reception, even on a very powerful station, is full of static. Can't listen to the ball game that way!

FM reception is not bad, except when I go through the tunnel on the way to work.

So, to get the AM reception back, gotta fix it.

I'd rather not have all the power and other special stuff (like the hydraulic hood supports-- I'd settle for a hinged metal rod to prop it up, like my old car had). Too many things to break.
