cracked rubber boot near tranny?
I was under my max a minute ago and noticed a rubber boot coming off the back of the bottom of the tranny...it has a decent size hole in it, and appears to have been leaking what i'm assuming is tranny fluid. I'm wondering how easy it is to change this out, how crucial it is that I do so instead of trying to makeshiftly patch it, what the name of the part IS, and how much it might cost to repair it if I can't do it myself. Any help is appreciated

I assume you're talking about a 5 speed. It's the striking rod boot, which is a $5 part and fairly easy to replace.
However, there should not be significant oil leakage through the seal that it covers - you should look into changing that as well if you see oil outside the seal. Dave |
The striking rod boot is made with a hole in it. If it is leaking fluid, then the problem is with the seal, like Dave says.

found out that it wasnt even my car that had been leaking the oil....problem solved all is well
