Lookin At Y-Pipes, Aluminized or Stainless?

Im checkin out the y-pipes and i want something thats not gonna rust out, how much better is stainless and howmuch longer will it last?

dennisadhs 12-25-2005 05:19 PM

Depends, if your gonna sell your car withing the next 4 or 5 years just go for aluminized. If you plan on running it into the ground then go for SS.

Northern Maxima 12-25-2005 05:22 PM

I would go with SS since it won't rust. That's definitely what I'll do if/when I get a ypipe.

maximazation 12-25-2005 05:29 PM

Depending on if they salt the roads is PA. Aluminized Steel will still do the job and won't rust for 5 or so years, thats if the roads are salted.

RockfordMax 12-25-2005 05:34 PM

yeah, i got alum because at this age (my car is turning 12 in 6 months :) ) my unibody will rust out before my y-pipe does, so it doesnt worry me. The hangar and welds are pretty much coated as of now either way.

yeah they salt the roads big time, our roads our fallin apart too.

86maxima96 12-25-2005 08:01 PM

definitely worth the investment in SS. it will probably last the rest of the time you own the car and it would probably be worth it for Philly winters.

djdirtyrice 12-26-2005 03:17 PM

yeah your right im definantly gonna go with ss does anybody know anything about the warpspeed y-pipes?

RockfordMax 12-26-2005 03:28 PM

yes. ive got an alum one, but the welds were amazing, fitment was perfect. no bees-in-a-can, its perfect. WSP ftw!

TurTLe* 12-26-2005 04:14 PM

get a budget y-pipe. its one of more the cheaper ones in terms of price but i think they are all SS and has better reviews on the board then WS

86maxima96 12-26-2005 05:53 PM

I went with Budget because from what I was hearing on the .org at the time, WS wasn't doin as well quality/fitment wise.

lilaclucymaxima 12-26-2005 06:24 PM

SS budget for those salty PA roads.

rooyboy 12-26-2005 07:59 PM

I got an aluminized warpspeed a few years ago in a group deal and it still looks great after 3 chicago winters.

SNOMAX 12-26-2005 08:46 PM

I say get SS. You can keep it as long as your car and you never know, you might be able to sell it down the road for more money with just a little clean up versus an alum one.

my 2c

sonicrunch 12-27-2005 12:05 PM

ss is a waste of money

was the factory ss? no it was not

jordanius83 12-27-2005 01:03 PM

which one is considered a budget y-pipe?

i'm looking at the WSP page trying to figure out which pipe to choose on a budget, we don't have rust problems in OK.

Mishmosh 12-27-2005 02:53 PM

If you car does not see winter salt, get the cheapest Y-pipe.

If you have winter conditions, an aluminized pipe will last 4-6 years which is still a relatively long time. My T304 SS pipe is going on 5 years now and looks very good (just some minor surface tarnish). The aluminized pipe on my Greddy catback is 3-4 years old and looks like crap!

Budget is actually a brand that makes ypipes:

I don't see any on their site but if you contact them they may be able to...it may not be so cheap at that point if its custom made, but I haven't been in that situation so I'm not sure what's involved.

djdirtyrice .. I am from philly also .. I just bought a budget y pipe and they said it should but here by the 3rd .. They said it should get me about 17-22 hp at the wheels with the stock exhaust ..

t6378tp 12-29-2005 01:03 PM

oh yeah it's the stainless steel

whlimi 12-29-2005 03:44 PM

I would go with SS as well. I live in Toronto and there's a lot of salt during the winter so I figured might as well go SS.
