I believe it's a white plug with blue tape around it. That other thread was deleted last I heard, so you'll have to wait until someone else chimes in but that's what I think it was.

Yes, I to have it. You will see the plug once you pop out your map light. Mine was right there tucked in the back. I think only 1 person has confirmed the plug actually powers and operates the I30 mirror and I don't know how true that is.

IIRC he put a fuse in. Which spot I'm not sure.

He probably just added a jumper in on the plug to get it to work.. no big deal. I don't see why a fuse would be needed.

Yes, I think the original poster of that lost thread was the only one who seemed to be able to make it go though several others, including myself, do have the plug in question.

I did go through the trouble of energizing the one in my Max, here are the basics;
The connector that hooks up the roof (R1) had 8 positions where the connector it plugs into (M10) has only 5 that are actually populated.

The fuses required for the hook up (#13, #18) are both present because they run other things.

The wiring info is available if you download a FSM for an I30 of your year Max.

Without getting into all the details, I went around the R1-M10 connection by extending the conductors in the R1 connector to the appropriate places indicated in the I30 FSM. The connection to the 6J terminal on the fuse block I was able to make "factory" the other two, though well done by hack standards, are not as pretty.

I am quite happy with the results since before this rewire, to save time, I was just using power from the map light which meant the mirror was on all the time. It's not like it draws a lot of current or anything. I left it for a week back in October with no affect on starting.

Pins 2, 3 and 4 (R/Y, R/L and G/L respectively) get illumination power, "lighting" power and ignition power in that order. Pin 1 (Black) is ground. SO, originally I had the map light power to pins 2, 3 and 4 and pin 1 was hooked to ground.

Let me know if you need any more info on the subject.

I talked to him. He originally had it wired up. He was replacing a sunroof motor or whatever, had the map lights down. Saw the plug grabbed it and tried plugging it into the mirror. And bam it works. Now for some reason he put a fuse in every spot in the fuse block, prior to finding the plug.

That is what he told me when I saw him the other day.

Any black mirrors available? How much and do all the lights illuminate? I bought one and the damn Auto light doesn't light up. So I tried to retro some leds in them and screwed the button up.

I have the harness in my 96 SE. Tried the auto dim mirror mod and its not working. The dins for the plug are so small that I couldn't get my tester to fit to check for power to the harness. Wondering if its a bad mirror. My sunroof, map and visor lights are all powered off the same harness.

Anyone have any luck on additional fuses???

BTT!

I bought a mirror from an ORG member, found the harness and plugged it in, but it didn't work. So I figured it was bad. Was at a pick a part and found another so I grabbed it. Plugged it in and it didn't work either...

So, now I understand that it's not getting juice even though the harness is present.

There is a 7.5a mirror fuse in the fusebox, but that must be for the heated mirrors.

I need to grab an FSM...

Even though the connection is there in the roof there are conductors that don't come through the connector located in the leftside "A" pillar.
Read my post #48 and see if that makes it clearer to you. There is probably nothing wrong with either mirror.

I went and DL'd the appropriate FSMs. After looking those over, your post made a lot more sense.

Funny thing, while the plug/harness for the mirror exists in my Maxima, it doesn't appear in the FSM for the Maxima, just the i30.

Yeah thats because the plug was never intended to be used in the Maxima, why they added the plug is beyond me. Im sure it can be rigged up to work. All you would need is the FSM for the I30 then bring power to the appropriate wires in the plug. I have my I30 mirror and the plug in my Maxima, when I get some time I'll look into in to it.
