Guys need lil. help here (tired of issues)

Since i bought the car i found that it's always sweating in this area (engine oil)
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...t/flywheel.jpg
I know that it shouldn't be there since its connection between engine and transmission. I tried to tighten black little cover w/ 2 small bolts don't think that helped though. I got an auto trans. so i dont feel any issues with it. I know that manual start acting wierd when oil gets flywheel.
Don't even tell me that i have to remove trans. to fix that or i will kill myself.
Can i drive it like that?

Can't really tell from the pic but I would imagine the rear main seal, and yes, you must remove trans, TC, and flexplate in order to gain access to the rear main. Not really that bad of a job if you have the right tools (two post, air tools, transmission jack, etc.).

yessir
rear main seal
How bad is the leak?

black97 04-08-2006 09:15 AM

It's kinda sweating but not dripping oil last time i cleaned with cloth a week ago and now it seems like i have to do it again.
How hard is it to replace rear seal. In manual it says that i have to remove oil pan but i've heard that you can do it without removing pan just trans.
I'm so pissed. Can i drive it like that for a while.

You can drive it and be fine.
You will lose oil and have a mess, but that's about it.
The rear main seal is a seal that encircles the crankshaft.

it says that there is 2 seals one like you showed and second moon seal undeneath it, right ?

Mine has been like that for a few months. I bought one of those Blitz pans to park the car on. Whats a fix like this cost? I imagine the dealer sees dollar signs when they drop the tranny.

That is correct. The half moon seal seals the oil pan.

yes the dealer does.
I would avoid the dealer in this case. Any regular shop could handle this easily.

is it really necessary to fix it if its just a minor leak? i have a minor one there, it rarley ever drips on my driveway.

If it's not dripping oil, leave it alone. A very slight weep from an oil seal isn't anything to really worry about. If it starts leaving a puddle in your driveway, start worrying about it.

haha... when I saw the link I automaticaly knew it was from my thread...:) I'm happy my thread is helping others....

yeah about the problem.... well I made my problem worst.... but it was because I lost patience....

I order the half moon seal from nissan and they gave me the wrong one, so I got one from a "autozone like store" and I was having a hard time puttion it all back together, so i decided to cut some of the rubber or the seal -> DO NOT DO THAT!!!
make sure you order the rear main seal and the half-moon form Nissan, and get all parts in before tackling the job....

removal of everything was done by my self alone.... put it back together would be easier to have some elses help...

Also try having your car lifted up high enough for when doing the Rear main seal part (I did while laying down on the floor)...
result ow my car has one drop or two of oil on the garage every morning....

once school is out I will try redoing the whole job again.....

Same thing, except i never saw it drip anywhere on the ground, but i know there is a small leak. I was told nothing to worry about. I HOPE SO!!!
