braking issue - rotors?

So, when Im braking from like 40-30mph with the pedal decently pressed in(not all the way), my car feels like there is another force applying more pressure to the brake system, and it is like bucking....
like the brakes are applied harder then softer, harder then softer, etc....
but i know that the pedal is applied gradually and Im not tapping the brake pedal(which is what the car feels like)
perhaps it is the rotors?
Im not sure....
help

Thanks

Are you saying your pedal is "pulsating"?

whitegold 04-29-2006 08:55 PM

If the pedal isnt pulsating.. It might be a warper rotor(s) but I dont think it would have that kind of effect.

goldtooth 04-29-2006 09:18 PM

the pedal is not pulsating but the car feels like it is

cleanmax 04-29-2006 09:29 PM

i have a pair of brand new front rotors for 45 dollars. Just basic rotors nothing crazy

crazy97 04-29-2006 09:29 PM

I have this same issue. It feels like you are pushing on the pedal then letting off over and over..

yea, thats it, but the problem is that in fact I'm not...

It sounds like you may have warped rotors. I recommend Brembo blank-style rotors.

When you get the new ones installed, I recommend using a torque wrench to loosen and re-tighten every lug nut to 80ft-lb, especially after the car has been serviced.

can I visually examine the rotor and see if its wavy or is my eye not good enough to see that kind of wavy rotor?

ThurzNite 04-30-2006 12:02 PM

If you look at my old rotors, you'll notice the alternating light and dark areas on the outter circumference. This happened when I switched to Hawk HP+ track pads. Yes, I knew this was gonna happen, it said right on the box it'll cause excessive rotor wear.

I have Hawk HPS
but I think I'm just gunna get some Brembo blanks for all 4....

There's a group deal for rotors, I got the zinc plated slotted ones. They're flashy, but I want the HP+ again... Need more track days to wear the pads down. :)

I have solved my problem. I replaced the REAR rotors and pads and it brakes smooth for once!

did you have to bleed your brakes after you did this?

No, I didn't disconnect any brake lines. All I did was turn the caliper in with a tool I bought that attaches to a socket wrench. As I cranked in the caliper the brake fluid level in the master cylinder went up and I just sucked out some with a turkey baster and topped it off when the job was done. The first time you hit the brakes the fluid will go down a little and you should add more.

thanks!!!!!!

FishyMan 05-15-2006 03:48 AM

bleeding doesn't hurt.

but can someone tell me the proportion in which the rear brakes?

Do you mean that you pushed the piston into the caliper, so the new pads would fit?

Yes, but the rears require you to turn them in clockwise. You can't push them in like the fronts. I bought a rear caliper tool to do this. I've heard that you can use a needle nose pliers, but I'm glad I didn't try that.
