Recall versus TSB
Originally posted by 97MaximaSE ?? A TSB is the means by which Nissan notifies its dealers of a recognized problem and a recommendation for diagnosis and remedy. There is room for the dealer to exercise his judgement. There is no time limit for applying a TSB, because a TSB is nothing more than a piece of technical information. You may think of a TSB as an addendum to the factory service manual. |
I'm a service advisor for Toyota, and to expound on what Daniel said..
A recall is just as he stated. It is regardless of time or mileage, always eligible. A TSB is, at least with Toyota, free only under warranty. When several vehicles have a common problem, factory techs do a full technical procedure write-up to correct the problem and send it out to dealers so their mechanics will be armed with info. and know-how. This way when vehicles come in with the problem (and there will be several) the technicians will be able to fix it promptly and correctly without having to try to diagnose and guess at the fix. It is good that the factory does this because some TSBs we have out are for some of the most minute, obscure things that even our master tech wouldn't be able to diagnose. I believe all recalls and most TSBs require re-designed, upgraded replacement parts. |
