What is up with this code 0505?

I just checked my ECU 4 my 1st time after it been on my dash for awhile now, I got the code 0505 - No Failure Recorded/Detected - I kno I have a messed up speedometer because mine drops like 75% of all 4th gens and my alternator been given me problems. Any of you ever got this? How can my ECU not have detected these?

Pieps 05-09-2006 04:19 PM

It just tells you everything is all right...Don't worry about it

NmexMAX 05-09-2006 04:24 PM

It's the no code code.

Maxima_Joe 05-09-2006 04:40 PM

Yep it means your max should last a long life.

Are you saying your CEL was ON and you got that code or you where just checking it to check it?

I'm in Richmond and I have a scanner if you want to check your car out. Or you can go to Advanced. I've never seen this code when I use my ODB II scanner. But I only used it once when I first bought the scanner.

Same thing happened to me with code 0505. CEL came on and I cross referenced the code with the list in the stickies. Makes no sense to have a code for no fault detected. Maybe its a max's way of saying "im aite."

Made me worry a bit though, since after I cleared the code (no stored ones btw) it came back. Anyone have any idea what this is about?

Could just be a service reminder code that comes on at a certain mileage. Now back to what you said about the ECU not picking up on the speedometer and alternator problem. Its not designed to pick up every little thing that goes wrong with the car. It should tell you if you have a bad vehicle speed sensor but thats not the only thing that can throw a speedometer off. Reset it and if it doesn't come back on dont worry about it.

I had that code: 0505...about half a year later I got a 0210 code.

darklegend06 05-18-2006 06:08 PM

does that 0505 code ever go away after clearing that? My sister's 99 max keeps comeing back. stupid orange light.

mzmtg 05-19-2006 02:17 AM

The ECU doesnt have anything to do with the speedometer or the alternator.

My theory

The ECU was triggered by something and that's why you got the SEL (duh). Maybe it was a "False Alarm" and the ECU recognized that but was unable reset the SEL. The engineers at nissan realised this could be an issue so they generated this code just to let you no the ECU did get a "False Alarm" but was unable to reset the SEL.

Only thing i can think of;)

I cleared my ECU of the 0505 code and the light came back on but instead of gettin the 0505 code again I got 2 other codes involvin my knock sensor and o2 sensor.....should these be fixed asap or wut? what should I deal wit first?

I had this a couple of times. The 0505 is the visible code. Using a OBD2 plug tool, I found ghost codes. One for the knock sensor and one for the crank sensor. Both tested fine. My guess is that something trips the ECU, but then all is fine. I think the ECU can store 30(?) codes.
