I have 17x7.5 inch rims right now with 235/45/17 tires on them .... I wanted to know the widest possible tire that a 7 inch rim can handle safely... 245/45/17 .. 255/40/17 ?? ... also im curious to who has the widest tire on their 7 inch rim .... thanks for any input, Rick

What you could do is go to the tire rack and see--the pattern I see is that the lower the aspect ratio, the wider the rim necessary. For example, a 235/50-17 can go on a 6.5" rim, but a 235/45-17 needs a 7.5 minimum, for an Avon Tech M550. Not sure if it varies by brand, but shouldn't. Then again, those are the minimums, and not optimum.

With rims so cheap nowadays, I would strongly urge people not to get a narrow rim and try to mount wide tires on them. Why not get an 8" rim with the correct offset? Why bother with 7"?

yeah i went to tirerack and looked at the recommened tire width for certain tires .... well I would love an 8 inch rim ... the main thing is that I cant find a rim that I like, with an 8 inch width for a decent price ... .. grrrrrrrr

Check out the closeouts--I just ordered Shuk W21 18x8 for $119 ea, used to be $279. They weight 22.5 which is nice and are 2-pc. Now it turns out I don't need them but still they're not that expensive. Probably made in Korea is why they're cheap, but that's ok....:jump:

My favorite rim is the ASA that's licensed by BBS, they're like $219 which is too much for me...lots of Bimmer owners use them for their winter tires and rave about them.
