There are some things you can do yourself, but in my experience only a body shop can really make it look like it came from the factory. What you need to do is completely wash the area with dish soap to strip off the wax. Get a random orbit polisher with a polishing pad, a buffing pad(s), and a fine polish pad. Then get something like meguir's auto polish and apply with your polishing pad. There are also special polishes available specifically meant for clear coat scratches, so you will prolly want to get one of those.

After the polish, repeat the same thing but use the fine polishing pad last. Follow the directions on the bottles and dont overdue it as it may strip paint off if you go overboard. At this stage the car should look very shiny and you should be able to see your reflection in it. Some people like to use clay bar at this stage to really help with the shine. BUt normally you can just get high quality wax, apply a coat and buff with the random orbit polisher, repeat for more shine. Dont use the pad you used for buffing for waxing, if the products get mixed up its a recipie for trouble.

Should be a big improvement.
