Aftermarket Steering Wheel

For a while now every person, that I have talked with, that changed their steering wheel to an aftermarket one has a non-working horn. Even a local auto boutique charges $100 for labor not including making the horn work.

I have been looking at the 4th gen fsm and noticed this:

This is the spiral cable, for those who cannot tell.

Is the red arrow for activating the horn? If so, maybe I can tap from the corresponding wire and wire the aftermarket steering wheel's horn button to it. I'm hoping that the spiral cable can be retained when installing the hub for the aftermarket steering wheel. If not, this plan won't work.

As for the cruise control, I'm thinking of fabbing some kind of bracket that will hold the c/c control pod on to the steering column. What do yo think?

Interesting observation. I want to eventually go with a Momo and I hadn't thought of this...

the part you are talking about can't be retained. i just installed a sparco in my 96 and i am going to use aftermarket horns. my wheel has the two buttons for horns on it and i'm using one for the horn and one for the nitrous. if you do it yourself, you will need a #50 star wrench with the pin in the middle to take out the two bolts (one on either side of the wheel). autozone has them and you can rent the wheel puller if you don't have one. their tool rental is free, you just leave a credit card. maybe someone more knowledgable can tell both of us if there is a way to save the cruise control? hope this helps.

I have aftermarket horns up front. They utilize the stock wiring. How are you going to make yours work with the aftermarket steering wheel?
