I think jammers/detectors are much more trustworthy than just a detector. Like the one's from rockymountainradar.com . Plus a lot of companies have guarantees, if you aren't doing 40 or more over than they'll pay your ticket.

Fre$h_TurK 08-06-2006 10:18 AM

valentine 1.... upgradable

kcryan 08-06-2006 11:13 AM

Radar jammers...are illegal IIRC

Laser jammers ARE NOT, laser is regulated by the dept of agriculture, and they dont care if you change/ modify signals, so a laser jammer is totally legal

kcryan 08-06-2006 11:15 AM

Rockymountain radar is a load of crap, they dont work, they make a decent detector, but they sure as hell dont change the radar at all, look online for this, they are a huge waste of money

dimension45 08-06-2006 02:52 PM

passport 8500 is the way to go, have never gotten a ticket and never been pulled over when using it has great range and also has vg-2 blocker so the cops cant figure if you have a radar

dimension45 08-06-2006 02:54 PM

in california it is perfectly legal to have a radar detector and laser blocker, just dont go to virginia

unless they either see it, or have the new spectre system...which only the Beltronics STi can hide from....

chicken-n-rice 08-06-2006 05:38 PM

scubasteve 08-14-2006 08:09 AM

Valentine One FTW

RedfoxXx 08-14-2006 08:37 AM

I use to sell those at radioshack!
there alright, I have only had mien save me from a speed trap OUNCE on a highway, but I guess it paid for its self then?

Anyone who is serous about these things gets a passport tho mine is more of an annoyance than anything, espically in the city (yes even when it’s on a city mode!)

However they do give you that cool ricer street racer look!

The Wizard 08-14-2006 11:24 AM

Great topic, but what da hell does this have to do with 4th gen Maximas????
This belongs in OT newb.

maximaman10 08-14-2006 12:54 PM

I have a Bell RX65 Pro and have had luck with it. However, I have gotten tickets with it too. It won't help if they have there radar off till almost up on you and then turn it on. I have gotten it several times that way.

rocksteadyracer 08-21-2008 01:08 AM

My radar detector is installed behind the grill for the radar part(wireless). The laser detector is behind the rear view mirror (wired) and the little output screen is right underneath the radio. it is super stealth with the black wire running down the pillar.

krzymax 08-21-2008 02:02 PM

Escort Passport 8500. It's very helpful.

roggeezy 08-21-2008 02:13 PM

I got a 8500 x50. It's swell

Jae

I have a Cobra mounted under the rearview with the wire ran under the headliner.. hardwired to the ignition. No tacky wires hanging around and it works quite well.

People who say they dont work fell victim to pulse radar. Police can pulse the radar just to tag you so it isnt giving off a constant signal and setting off detectors. Interstates/freeways are the place the detectors help the most because they can pick up signals from further away. My detector paid for itself the first time it alerted me.. no telling how many thousands of dollars its saved me over the last year. Yeah I get pulsed once in a while by a hiding speed trap or a oncoming police but more often than not my detector gives me enough time to slow down.

Do not get a Cobra. You would be better off even with a budget Whistler detector such as the 30 dollar Whistler DE 1732. I used to ride with that detector and it has saved me quite a few times. Don't say I didn't warn you about Cobras though.

They are the only ones worth it, would u buy paper condoms??

I have a Bel, but an early one; mine has too many false detects, but works fine on the open road. It has already paid for itself in avoiding fines.

Notice the V1 in the windshield? While RD's help with detecting cops, they don't always save you from getting busted. I got this warning for doing 61 in a 40. As soon as my V1 beeped I stomped the brake, but the cop clocked me from around 200 yards away. Luckily the guy was really nice though. I'd say that the V1 has saved me many times, but the best safe guard is common sense and obeying the speed limit :D.

Check out http://forums.maxima.org/members-rid...18-curves.html. Basically on the way to our destination I was found speeding, pulled over, and warned. Upon reaching the first photo spot I took out the ticket and placed it under the wiper so it wouldn't blow away. Then I took a picture to share all the fun and joy of my trip.

jheaton 08-24-2008 06:31 PM

i have the cobra 9930 and it works great or the 9950 cause it has the optional gps locator

FRZ251 08-24-2008 09:15 PM

Escort 9500i, or Valentine One are your best contenders. Escort now owns Beltronics, so they share the same electronics inside. www.guysoflidar.com is a great site to figure out which detector suits you best. The V1 comes out on top on almost every test.

RaDaRkInG 09-15-2008 08:24 AM

Nothing beats the Valentine One in radar and laser detection in the under $500 radar detector category. Cobra makes some of the worst performing and falsing detectors in the world.

I have a Passport 8500 X50 (red) and have it mounted up by the rear view mirror with the wires concealed. It works great on Highways as well as locally and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for one. A friend of mine also owns one of the higher end Bel radar detectors and it also works very well for both highway and local driving.

I have that one and it works great. Only thing to watch for is that if the cops are using laser......cuz if it goes off that means they already got you

Except for the buttholes. A cop got really pissed off at me because he tried to pass me using the turn lane and I wouldn't let him. He pulled me over and said "The next time you decide to be an *** remember that it might be a cop." And flashed his badge. I asked for his badge number and he walked away, got in his car and drove off. I calledk the FL highway patrol and described the undercover Impala and talked to his supervisor. His supervisor was really ticked because he had done stuff this stupid on 2 other occassions. He said that he was going to suspend him without pay for a week. I asked to talk to that cop and I told him "Next time you decide to be as ***, remember that it might be me."

I now ride with either a Whistler DE 1732 or a Whistler XTR-105. Both of them work great for me and have paid for themselves. I took them both into the speed trap known as Gulf Breeze and got a 10 second K/Ka band warning. More expensive radar detectors can give better warning but if I don't do 80 in a 45 I don't see why I should have something that expensive for protection againist radar.
