how to safely remove spraypaint from car paint??
 

This has been about a year since I painted my trunk lip spoiler. I taped off about an inch off the spoiler and forgot to put on another layer flush with the spoiler to avoid drips, so theres a strip of spraypaint on my trunk that I need to get off. by the time I had realized I sprayed on my trunk, it was about 3 layers of krylon fusion and 3 coats of dupli clear. I tried wetsanding with 800 and claybarring, however, no luck. Any paint removers i can use to hopefully take it off?. I can live with a bit of haze since I can just wetsand, compound,clay,polish,wax. so not an issue, jsut need to the the paint off. Thanks in advance.

acetone. i know it sounds bad but it hasnt messed my paint up.

Wet sanding, done correctly is your only safe option.
You might try Goof Off too. :nervous: That stuff works excellent on sap, instantly disolving it. I've taken spray paint off cars with it as well. Not several coats, but heavy overspray.

i was thinking of using goof off, but that stuff is just too harsh. [ proper wetsanding, i started from 800 grit and worked that for about 5 minutes. and in one spot I sanded down to the bare metal. so i moved down to 600 grit and sanded for about 10 minutes. still nothing. ] what other alternatives can you guys think of? i'm almost slumping to the last resort to use the messed up trunk as an excuse, bondo a few things and get it repainted.

clay bar will remove spray paint

I detailed cars for 5 years while I went thru engineering school. We had overspray on cars all the time. We used Meguiars #7 polish mixed with paint thinner. About 75% polish and 25% thinner. Any oily polish will work. It helps get the thinner down in the overspray so it can break it down. It is more of a chemical removal than a "scrub it off" removal. Rub it on with some pressure about like you are wet sanding. You can push pretty hard since you have the polish to take the edge off the thinner. The longer the overspray was on there the more of a pain in the a$$ it will be. If it was on there too long, you REALLY have some work ahead of you.

When (or if) you are done, put a coat of a good 100% pure carnauba wax to protect it.

WD-40 also works great on recent (same day) overspray. Also great for bug guts and road tar. Just make sure to wax the area when you are done.

hey bro use this stuff.. it works i had a similar problem when i was painting someting outside a little close to the car.. trust me it works.... i first saw it at the autoshow this year.. they were spraying spray paint on a car and removing it with this stuff its crazy..
