Ran over a Parking block, Wow...

UPDATE
The Crossmember damage
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...ture139111.jpg
So i was leaving campus and thought i had a clear passage through my parking space, WRONG. My left front tire goes over this stop(a lil bigger than the one pictured) and slams the bottom of the car on it as it goes over it. I s l o w e l y pull it out in Reverse and get out smoothly.

I checked under the car and there is this strip of metal that appears the only thing scraped. Is this piece meant for Morons like myself? To protect the engine compartment etc.?

And what possible damage could i have done?

Im not sure if its my sub-concious but i feel like the suspension/tires jerk more quickly on cracks/pot holes.

UPDATE
Also, i found a Huge piece of metal about the size of my palm missing from under my car. Ill post pics later, idont know what it is, but its not recent. The edges are rusted over so it must have been a while ago.

The Missing Piece.

u want a real answer, or the fake one, the fake answer would be YES those pieces are made especially for idiots like you...

now for the real answer, those metal pieces are to protect the car from such dangerous natural elements such as dirt/snow/rain/salt from snow/and naturally... you

but all jokes aside, at least u were able to make it out of this horrific accident unscathed... remember, nothing is more precious than your life... stay safe.

96blkonblkse 09-14-2006 08:37 PM

that is your ceneter cross member that took the brunt force. Check under the car and make sure nothing looks visably screwed.

shadyonedeath 09-14-2006 08:56 PM

Is it possible the tires mis-aligned?

I might just be trippin about the handling though...i got really worried after that slam.

96blkonblkse 09-14-2006 09:01 PM

it could be possible but it depends on how hard you hit it. rougly how fast were you going when you initially hit it?

black97 09-14-2006 09:06 PM

feel sorry for ya man
you have to get your wheels aligned after that
.

shadyonedeath 09-14-2006 09:07 PM

From 0 to 5-10mph

aznxenon 09-14-2006 11:42 PM

LOL I done that before in my Accord =P

cslasher 09-15-2006 12:30 AM

My friend did that with her Mazda. And she just continued driving the whole car over the block thing without a care. Oh man, that nasty scraping sound.

dgeesaman 09-15-2006 03:18 AM

The crossmember is pretty tough. It's where Nissan recommends lifting the front of the car. As long as the connections at the ends fo the member look good, (esp the radiator support that it bolts into in the front), you're golden.

shadyonedeath 09-15-2006 11:00 AM

update, pics^^

JPMax 09-15-2006 11:05 AM

Looks like the part with the missing piece is one of your pre-cats on the Y pipe.

Better have it checked for any exhaust leaks.

shadyonedeath 09-15-2006 11:13 AM

Yea, and it looks pretty old too, rusted/worn edges. I dont know how my dads stupid jiffyLube checkups didnt spot it.

dgeesaman 09-15-2006 11:18 AM

That precat was clearly weld-repaired, probably due to a leak. I see nothing wrong with it.

As for the rust being a problem, well, it's obvious you're in LA and not in a salt-belt state. Parts look like that here after just a couple years.

Dave

ethnic6 09-15-2006 11:35 AM

ur fine, its just rusted off, as for that scratch, its nothing major u'll live, and so will ur max

MaximaSE96 09-15-2006 11:56 AM

lol no.

why?

shadyonedeath 09-16-2006 03:08 PM

Ok yea, i looked over all the car-history papers in my Glovebox and one says the Cat was replace.

But i guess the mechanic ripped my Dad off telling him he replaced the Cat when he just fixed it.

shadyonedeath 09-16-2006 04:25 PM

Yea, atleast i know its not damaged.

Still, they should've done a better job. It looks really sloppy.

How much did he charge to "replace" the cat, or pre-cat actually which is part of the y-pipe? If it's double digits, the repair shop just worded it wrong on paper and didn't rip you off.

been there....done that...didn't cry about it on the .org

Supermax95 09-16-2006 11:15 PM

You got it easy, my friend did that in his 1 month old ducati....scraped the **** out of himself and the bike...

Papa Squat 09-18-2006 04:18 AM

ran over one of those myself 2 weeks ago.....now looking for y pipe and catback

scrhale 09-18-2006 04:44 AM

I just did this in my mom's 350z Roadster :'( . She wanted to shoot me. I don't think I damaged anything other then the very bottom of the bumper and scratched up the plastic cover panels that help block out water. The rear components of the Z are significantly higher then the front components (ie. The exhaust sits higher then the crossmember, rain guards, etc) so once I cleared the bump it just went over the rest without scratching.

I definitely felt like an *** and moron.

talisman311 09-18-2006 11:36 AM

I can't believe that's 11 years worth of rust. I'd almost move to the west coast so I don't have to deal with hella seized parts on my car that just end up breaking when I attempt to take it off.

Hahaha

I feel lucky now.

maxima1380 09-18-2006 04:03 PM

You are lucky with that minor damage. My cross member looks a whole lot worse than that.

2 Da Max 09-18-2006 04:24 PM

that sucks
