BANG!! Side mirror GONE!!
Driving down the highway this morning. For a split second I see something in my perifreal(sp) vision. The next second I hear a BANG! and my f*cking side mirror is just gone! Gone! I look over and all I see is the base arm and the f*cking wires blowing in the wind. I look behind me and I see the remnants breaking apart on the ground behind me.
Anyone replaced their powered(non-heated) side mirrors before? Or should I just take this to the shop? |
Its easy. Just take the inside door panel off and that will expose the bolt that holds the triangle shaped trim piece that cover the screws for the mirror. Very easy job.

I have on a 92 honda accord, very simple repair requiring only a few tools a little common sense

So the mirror just broke off by itself? interesting..

It's an easy repair but how come you didnt say what the hell happened? You side mirror just flew off? That doesnt sound right.
|
hahaha, funny story, did u get a look at the car that hit ur mirror? I would have spun around and chased them... anyways, its easily replaced... just get one off ebay and take a look at the stickies
|
i guess u can say ur lucky that ur's mysteriously flew off ... mine got ripped off by a truck while my car was parked ... it's an easy fix ... take off the door insert, which shows the screw holding the triangle cover thing in place, once that is off, there are 3 bolts holding the mirror to ur car ... I suggest spraying some WD-40 or some similar thing because if not the screws will break on u, too much oxidation I'm assuming ... good luck ...

After further review it appears some large chunk of concrete from the road whacked the mirror off. Upon further inspection my right side front fender has a nasty, deep gash in it as well.
Thanks once again for the info! I would not have thought about removing the door panel until 30 minutes into the replacement. Now I can do that step right away. Ordered a mirror from ebay, now just have to get ready to take it up the a$$ when it comes time to get the mirror painted and the fender painted.... |
damn dude... could have gone through the window and killed you. Happened down here a year or so ago. Was on news.
|
sucks you got a mirror already...cuz i have one thats already green i could sell you :p

Still confused on the whole 'mirror explodes all by itself' thing. Was it a car that struck the mirror? I expect to hear; "I hit something but didn't know what it was" from an 80-year-old guy who's being accused of hit-and-run, but not a normal person. If you hit something big enough to smash your mirror and the best you can do is; "something in my peripheral vision" then are you sure you are safe to be driving? Of course, if you are tryingt o avoid incriminating yourself then just tell me to shut up. :D
I have lost a couple of mirrors to cars parked by the side of the road when I first learned to drive. Not in the last 15 years though. hah... Right after I posted this I saw this on CNN... 91-Year-Old Man Accused In Fatal Hit And Run "He thinks he hit something. He wasn't really sure what. |

I've come to the conclusion something must have come out of the back of a truck or something. I didn't think it's as possible now that a car in front of me kicked up a large concrete slab, more likely one fell from a truck in front of me, bounced off my fender and wiped out my mirror.
Anyway the install and removal of the mirror was a piece of cake. |
