New AE tranny; passenger axle bracket bolts won't line up
Subject says it all...this makes me wonder if some of us got different passenger axles that aren't compatible with the VLSD transmissions.
I read that someone on here had a passenger side axle where the splines were too long. Maybe that's my case. :gotme: |
mabye its an LSD vs non LSD thing or something? although i know on autos the drivers side is the only one thats differently splined for LSDs..
Sorry i cant help more. |
were you also converting from auto to stick by any chance?

Maybe you did what I did. I took off the three bolts that hold the actually bracket to the frame of the car to get the axle out. Then when I went to put the axle back in and rebolt the bracket to the car i couldn't get them to line up again. It was off 1/8 of an inch. In the end I just undid the three bolts that hold that bracket to the actual axle and that let me push it into place to put the other 3 bolts in.

Well, I finally found some time to give this a shot (busy at work). I can't separate the bracket from the axle at all...got the 3 bolts out, but the two bracket pieces wont separate, now matter how big of hammer I use.
Any other suggestions? I think I might break down and buy a new axle. Even if it doesn't line up, I should have better luck separating the bracket on that one. |
If you have the original axle, i suggest trying to find an AE from a salvage yard or something and see if it makes a difference...I'm having the same problem and the bracket actually snapped...it looks like it's my tranny the problem, but not for sure...by the way, my axle was new when it snapped

air hame to get the old axle out...and spin the carrier bearing to line up the holes
