FM Modulator for Ipod - Will it work?
 

Anyone tried the Audiovox FM modulator from Circuit City for your Ipod/MP3 player? It got great writeups in the review, but was wondering if it will work with the Bose unit since the antenna cable appears to have another lead which I'm assuming is the trigger for the antenna to extend and retract. The advantage of this unit is that it totally disconnects the existing antenna when you connect to the ipod.

i dunno, but my friend had a ipod adapter where you connect into the cigarette lighter and it was like he set it to an FM channel no one listens to, and then change your station to that station and you can listen to your ipod, its pretty sweet.

buddy, my friend has this crazy Ipod "housing" All you do is put the ipod into the housing and its an FM transmitter. Its pretty nice. i think he said it was 50 bucks. Quit being cheap and just go buy the Clarion Max675....

We bought the kids two cheapo ($18) FM modulators, battery powered. Just tune radio to a FM frequency that is not occupied and you play the IPOD over the radio, be it in a car or at home. The quality is no worse than what you hear over the radio. We looked at the ones that plugged into the cig lighter, and opted for one that was just battery powered. this way they can play it in their room, or take with them, etc.

i have ones for sale. they are for the 4th gen. they sit on the ipod but dont charge it like some giving you the freedom of your cig lighter. $10 plus shipping. they are called AirTrips by Xtrememac.

I'll check it out. I tried one from Monster that worked ok, but picked up a bunch of static. I was curious about the Audiovox unit since it cuts off your antenna and feeds in it's own FM signal when it's on.

I've been wondering about a unit like that myself. Right now I have a cheap tape deck adapter from back in the 90's which works way better than FM transmitters; I wonder if that modulator is better than the tape adapter.

i have used this and it works okay, but not phenomenal results in my opinion. you'd be better off with a "CD changer/RCA" output cable. which im pretty sure is possible for that radio.

if you WANT to spend the money, and im going on the line and saying its WELL worth it... Go out and get an Alpine Deck that is A/I NET compatable, then look into buying the Ipod modulator through alpine. it connects through the AI net cable and the regular old plugin for your ipod. its a pretty sweet setup in my opinion. ive had it for about 2 years now.

yea my buddy put one in his xterra and he is anal about install so i know it was done right....sounded like POOOOOOOOP...he eneded up buying a head unit with an auxillary input...but if u have Pioneer headunit they sell an adapter unit that allows u to control ur ipod threw the HU itself and not worry about touching the ipod

I have the stock Bose unit. I probably won't invest in another radio, but I know Alpines have traditionally been great radios...especially if they are hooked up to great speakers.

and I think it works great. It has always been clear sounding and ipod is always charged when I leave the car. I do wish I could control ipod on HU, but since you still have the stock HU it doesn't matter anyways.

That's nice and super clean. Do you get any pops or static with that unit?

No, it is surprisingly clean sounding. I was alittle wary when I bought it since I thought I would get static. The digital channel selector lets you make sure you get your HU on the same channel though. It also comes with alot of different mounting methods and sizes. Can get a new one on ebay for alot cheaper too.
