Any way to find out if my 99's coils have been replaced?

As title states, im trying to find out if my 99's coils have been replaced. Is there some way that i can tell? I've had the car the past 20k miles, it just hit the 96k mile mark.

Help! P1320 Primary Ignition Signal Fault Detected

I think I have a big coil problem myself. Yesterday my Service Engine Soon light came on - and car started bucking. Mechanic said today that I needed 6 new ignition coil assemblies and all new spark plugs. He said it would cost $1100 because they can't determine which coil is at fault. Any Suggestions????

this kinda stuff you can do yourselves!! There's no reason why this should cost $1100! You can get the coils for $70 a piece and sparks plugs for $6 ea (good ones)

Go to a diff mechanic if you cant do the work yourself. All you got to do is unplug each coil and if it makes the car miss then that coil is still good. If you unhook 1 and nothing changes then that the bad coil.

P1320 is the general primary side misfire code. it can be caused by a number of different things (not just bad coils) -- but it usually does precede a coil failure. if you can, keep driving until the ECU tells you which coil is faulty -- but don't drive if the car is missing badly, that will cause other more serious problems. you can also disconnect coils one at a time to isolate the faulty one -- or just go ahead and replace all 6. don't pay $1100 though! you can do all 6 yourself for $400 and about 30 mintues. for plugs, use NGK V-power ($1.80 each) or G-power platinum ($3 each).

EDIT: oops! I stand corrected.... 1320 is the primary ignition code (0300 is the general misfire). but the implication is the same -- keep driving until 030x shows up, or isolate the bad coil and replace.

I think the part number is stamped on them. check to see if they are the old part number -- it has been updated at least twice with redesigned coils. latest version is hanshin. originals were hanshin, interim upgrade was mitsu.

about a month ago, i was in the same boat as you....got quotes from several mechanics and they were all rediculous....it was only from searching around here (there are several threads on this) that i saved myself a lot of $$$......

you dont need special tools, go here:http://www.vqpower.com/v2/modules.ph...howpage&pid=33
this site is very resourceful.....took me about 30 mins to swap....well only about 20, the last ten i was eating a sandwich :lickout:....as far as getting new coil packs, try ebay...i got a set for about $300...good luck

to the OP...skyjumper got it right on the money...
