Mice... i've got mice help

ok .. so recently i've been finding cleenex shreads all over in my car.. so i came to the conclusion that i had a mouse living in there. i set a couple traps the other day i caught 1 the 1st day then 1 the next... then 2 on the 3rd day... (traps were setup in the trunk) i really don't think that its normal to catch 4 mice in a car that i drive daily... so im wondering where they could be getting in? i do know that when i drive down gravel roads my trunk fills up with dust rather quickly as well as my back seat... has anybody else had a problem with mice b4? and yes when i changed my KS couple months back i had to use the shop vac and take a nest outta there 2.

wwoooooowwwww, thats crazy. the best thing ive heard of for mice problems is to go ahead and add a snake to your car.

na, but i think rats can fit into holes the size of a pencil, so theres no telling how they got in there. especially if its cold they get into the engine for warmth or whatnot. but keep setting traps b/c they could possibly chew wires.

im not sure if you're crackin on me, but i meant the engine bay

99BlackMaxMS Apr 1, 2007 07:34 PM

Did you let your car sit for a long period of time that they could of nested in it? Call a pest control place and have them spray your car with mice killing sh!t

maximacruizer Apr 1, 2007 07:36 PM

my cat just plays with mice now.. he's caught to many ... he prefers gofers or baby rabbits and birds

maximacruizer Apr 1, 2007 07:36 PM

and i live outta this city... its only my car tho my brothers car is fine and his is right beside mine

Those mice have good taste. :lolrun:

andrei3333 Apr 1, 2007 07:50 PM

dont spray ur car with poison or u will breathe it and touch it urself and thats dangerous, i say check the spare tire place, i could not believe the ammount of gargabe i found in mine when i took it out in the spring to check the tire pressure before winter.

other than this i duno man, get a cat to live in ur car, but i think they are getting in from somewhere, i dont think the temp is good enough for them to live in ur car + how do they eat? unless u s so sloppy when u eat fast food that u leave half burgers behind, but then hey u deserve to get rats in ur car if u r that sloppy HAHA

Maxgig Apr 1, 2007 07:53 PM

check your trunk under the spare tire, there is a plug for releasing water there that might have come loose.

andrei3333 Apr 1, 2007 07:58 PM

how can water get into the trunk there ?

i used to have a 97 neon that had a design flaw; near the rear tail lights there was a huge opening that let the rain water in. Knowing this i checked the maxima trunk and did not see anything that could allow water into the trunk

maximacruizer Apr 1, 2007 08:27 PM

well the spare tire area is fine nothin in there... i do however know that there is lots of dust and dirt on that openeing where the jack goes... so im thinking that one night this weak im gonna rip all the paneling out of my truck and monofoam any openings.. take my rear seats out and search every nook and crany..

im guess that there is a hole somewhere on teh passenger side.. because i believe that some point in my cars history it had been tboned on that side because both doors when i took the panels off were forest green.. and on the interior between the doors where the seat belt is near the bottom.. the black has chipped away and its champaign colour...

the car is Pearl white with black leather int.

but i carfax 'd my car before and there is no history of any accident so i dunno

andrei3333 Apr 1, 2007 08:29 PM

it was not claimed then, the accident may have been resolved privately

Get peppermint oil and fill some cotton balls up wit the stuff and leave them in your car. It will drive out the mice. An it does not smell like mothballs.

the_3d_man Apr 1, 2007 11:00 PM

I'm sure driving around has got to be enough to scare them out. or make them think twice about getting back in...

having mice in ur car is the first sign of global warming...

semaj3708 Apr 2, 2007 05:18 AM

We had a similar problem. The mice actually total-loss one of my vehicles, because it chewed thru the main wiring harness. We did the pepermint/cottonballs thing, and it semmed to have work. (fingers-crossed)

JwaxMax99 Apr 2, 2007 05:39 AM

This guy had NO mice in his Max. This is a classic.

Yeah, I just heard on the radio this weekend someone recommending using spearmint/peppermint teabags to keep mice out of storage sheds.

Should work just as well for your car.

MuNcH357 Apr 2, 2007 09:36 AM

This reminds me of that episode of Pimp my Ride where some girl had an old school Beetle with rats living in it. They pulled up the floor matting to a ton of rat crap... It was so bad that they were wearning HazMat suits to clean the car..

MaximaDvr Apr 2, 2007 11:25 AM

I would def start looking for a permanent fix to this. I'd start with pulling up the lining in the trunk and searching for openings to seal.

maxima985spd Apr 2, 2007 12:15 PM

I found a torched rat/mouse on the underside of my hood one day and it's leg was near the belt area hHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I agree. This seems far more permanent and practical than using peppermint oil (or use both).

on another note i have pictures of the 4 mice i caught.... anybody wanna see?

moogotzskillz2 Apr 2, 2007 03:03 PM

That sucks!!!! Did you like leave a philly cheese steak in the car over night...lol jk

Good luck with them.. hope u got all of them too.

kcryan Apr 2, 2007 03:32 PM

Alright heres what i would do.

First, buy like 3 of those electronic pest repellers, plug them in and run a wire into your car with them on it.

Seccond, on that same wire put a light bulb, they dont like light IIRC

third, keep the traps going

BlackMaxdout Apr 2, 2007 07:07 PM

I had a few in my trunk too! I have no friggin idea how they managed to get in there. I just kept throwing their nests out, and eventually they left. Sounds like yours are a bit of a bugger.

maximacruizer Apr 2, 2007 08:15 PM

i used those standard wooden/metal traps but those stupid things arn't sensitive enough the mice would lick it clean every time so i bought these ones from wallymart and they are awsome!!

ouchies...

96blkonblkse Apr 2, 2007 11:12 PM

^^damn that must have hurtt. I kinda feel bad for it now. Oh well teach those bastards to stay outta your car. I dont think i could drive my car knowing there was some wild animal in it..let alone a freakin snake..

maximacruizer Apr 3, 2007 08:26 PM

well i took the time to clean my car tonight... couldn't find where any mice have come in at all.. but i did find a little nest under the rear seat... and kleenex bits scattered around trunk and interiror of car so i put a bunch of bounce sheets in my trunk and under my seat because mice don't like them.. and cleaned everything really good :) hopefully they'l leave my car alone now

Litowcas Apr 3, 2007 08:35 PM

wow.. that really sux.. however the minivan i bought from this retired guy, who has not driven it in about 4 years ( was just sitting in his garage) had squirrels living in its ventilation system... so even now days when i turn the a/c on I sometimes have couple of nut shells coming out the vents. Good luck with the rat problem!
