☼☼ AC PROBLEM, Help please!!
Hello all,
Just earlier today when i tried turning on my AC, it doesnt work. but the wierd thing is that it only works when its turned all the way to 4. But when turned to 1 through 3, nothing comes on, but i do hear the AC turn on from the engine. Anyone have this problem before and know how I can fix it? Help would be greatly appreciated |
this will fix your problem! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GENUI...spagenameZWD1V

Yes that will fix your problem.

If you have a soldering iron then you can most likely fix it yourself for free, at least worth a try even if it doesn't work.

95 MAxima SE AC Problem
Can someone please help me with my problem? I dumped so much money into the AC and it's still not working (2G's). I've just replaced the compressor, as the last one from the wreckers died. It cools but not freezing cold, my recent mechanic said it gets colder as you drive but nothing like frezzing cold. They found a leak by the receiver dryer and replaced the line thinking that would solve the problem. Next possible porblem might be the expansion valve...more $$. If anyone knows or had this problem, please let me know what I can do. I love this car but can't afford to dump money like this.

Giddy,
The mech shoud have vacuum tested the system for leaks before charging it. if more leaks are fund later then he probably didn't test it correctly. Get a UV dye test kit from an auto parts store. This is put some UV dye into the system then you can find the leaks with the included UV pen light. Remember to check the evaporator drain line. |
Dear Giddy, these kind of stories make me very frustrated because either the mechanic(s) you have dealt with is/are not knowledgeable enough to properly service this system or they are mailiciously ripping you off. Any certified A/C technician knows you have to find the leak before you start replacing parts unless the compressor is gettin power and current and not turning on. I have strong suspicions about the competence of these individuals' practices. There is a good chance that your system took on moisture and when water combines with R-134 refrigerant it creates hydrochloric acid that corrodes the innards of the entire A/C system. Take Scruit's suggestion and get some diagnostic tests (UV leak and electronic sniffer tests) done at a place that has the right equipment. If the A/C gets reasonably colder while driving you are likely dealing with a messed up condenser (the "radiator" in front of the radiator). Also, there is a possiblity of acid formation within the system creating pinhole leaks in the evaporator which actually sits behind the firewall, in a rather inconvenient location to service. That is usually the worst case scenario.
Get the leak tests done, correct any problems at that time, then have them properly evacuate and vacuum down the system with a reclaimer machine and refill it with the appropriate amount of R-134 and PAG (or Ester) oil. I hope this process works out for you so you can finally get some relief from the heat, good luck! |
I appreciate everyone's comments/suggestions. The recent mechanic did do a dye test, that how he found the leak by the receiver dryer. He also did do a vacuum test and found the lines were fine. I will follow up with the suggestions Lor1DA and Scruit with the mechanic.

sorry to hack this thread, but i can't seem to make a new thread.
I have the exact same problems as stated above, only LEVEL 4 of A/C is working for me. I will order that part that you guys say will fix the problem, but where does it go? how to install? Also, is there any other place to buy in person so if anything happens i would be able to return? Thanks and sorry again. |
Same thing happens to me but with the heat. Just 4 works. My AC not working at all right now

Yup its a resistor. This problem is diagnosed in the 4th gen stickies if you wanna read on it a little more. I paid around 70 for the part and installation from a private shop. Shouldnt cost more than that, and this is a common probelm with 4th gens- especially as it gets warmer. |
what does soder mean?
Also, we see that you have to buy that part, just how and where do you install it? |
Since i've been passed down a Maxima 4gen as a hammy down, I've just fixed many parts like the ignition switch, now im trying to find out how to fix the AC. Do you guys think that blower resister will do ? Same price really as the one on ebay, but i can easily return the blower if anything happens. |
Any help on how to install and where?
And if buying a blower resister from autozone will work? |
bumppp!!!!!!!
