axle replacement Q's

i need both axles replaced, someone had told me that any axle whether it be auto or manual will work with my car. if this is true i could go to the junk yard and get 2 axles quick and cheap. can anyone shine some light on which axles i need,

i have a 98 5spd non abs, non vlsd

kc10fish Apr 18, 2007 04:25 PM

instead of trying to search a junk yard, try searching the fourm and you will get your answer. also note, axles are not that expensive. Do it once and do it right.

chazmcgee Apr 18, 2007 05:09 PM

axels are 55 a piece and maybe a core charge, the only person youd be cheaping is your self

As far as axle replacement goes, just cough up the 130 dollars for both axles and get it done right. Its a very simple and easy task, and once you get it done, you wont have to worry about it for the rest of your life. As far as the fitment for the axles, when you get to autozone, or kragen, or wherever to buy a rebuilt axle, they'll go through the questions with you so you get the right ones. Don't cut any corners on this, just do it right.

yea thats great but i dont plan on paying someone to do it for me, and not worrying about it for the rest of my life would be fantastic but we all know that axle boots dont last a lifetime. thanks for the responses but noone answered my question of are the axles different on auto and non and abs and non? i was told that the only difference between abs and non is a removeable ring on the end of the shaft that goes into the tranny.

its better to pay that $130 and have a piece of mine.... if you buy one from the junk yard and it goes out again (which it definitely will) you have to buy another one again but if you buy one from AZ you have lifetime warranty.....
besides you saving money by replacing it yourself anyway

jetblack5spd Apr 19, 2007 04:12 PM

hey Kc10fish i heard you the first time you told me to search, why dont you start searching for the c0ck that got stuck up your ***. Yea autozone does sound good but 130 each axle is alot, do you guys know of any places that you can bring in your old axle cores and get some reman axles in return?
thanks again

kc10fish Apr 19, 2007 04:46 PM

hey jet. you can get them for less i am sure. and as far as that whatever is up mine your wrong .....try f'ing the search ! your just a little punk trying to stir up trouble. go buy your stuff at the junk yard hope it dont hurt ya.

itll be around 160 or so for both of the axles from kragen. its really not that much. if you can get the new cardone ones from kragen or autozone they will be about 220-230 or so for both.

jetblack5spd Apr 19, 2007 05:35 PM

yea sounds good, i should have taken the axles off and rebuilt them when they tore the boots, but it was like 5 degrees outside and it stayed pretty cold all winter, i even bought new rubber boots. oh well i guess ill go to the junk yard and pick up two axles and change the boots when i get them. oh yea and kc10 that was the worst comeback. thanks for the breakdown dannyboy i just dont really like going to places like autozone and stuff because the employees there are usually as sharp as bowling balls, thanks for the info but i still dont know if auto axles will fit on a manual, abs non abs, etc. thanks

kc10fish Apr 20, 2007 01:53 AM

hey jet hope all goes well. no hard feelings just try to be a man and look stuff up. i know its hard for ya but give it a try. i found your info - took 10 min.

Dan_E_Boi84 Apr 20, 2007 09:59 AM

HEY!!!! I WORK AT AUTOZONE!!!!! LOL anyways... that site can help you figure out if the axles are interchangable or not... As far as it LOOKS... I think the ABS and nonABS will interchange as long as they are the same style tranny. I don't think a manual axle will fit a automatic... plus.... you need to know if the donor car has Limited Slip... if it does and yours doesn't it wont work...

quique Apr 20, 2007 04:06 PM

by cardones website it looks like the new ones will fit a manual and auto, make sure it is not limited slip those are different, and abs doesnt matter if your car doesnt have it, it is just a ring with bumps on the wheel end. for the reman ones the left (drivers side) apperently are differently.
