My tranny's leakin
I drive to work for half and hour on the highway every day, about a week ago i noticed a wierd smell coming from my car after I drove it. I put it up in the air and noticed i had ripped my cv boot and there was trans fluid coming out of my diff. Took it inot a garage and they said it had something to do with the bearing and not that the axle seal had worn out. I was able to move the axle around in the diff more than usual.
My car is a 5spd Im wondering if anyone else has had this problem and might know what to do? I was quoted allmost $2000 to fix everything, would getting a new trans and diff be cheaper? Also does our can have to take the synthetic fluid or can it take the regular much cheaper stuff. I dont like having to pay 140 to get new fluid put in. |
I have an auto with the same problem. Mine is leaking at the diff and I changed the seals thinking it was them. Apparantly the diff bearings go bad allowing fluid to pass and thats where the leak comes from. Same price to fix it though...not cool. Just think, I was planning a road trip to AZ and CA after I leave MAXXUS. I hope I still can. Does anyone know the life expectancy of a trans at this point?
