Got my NEW A/C Compressor..OIL ??
 

Alright, well David B sent me a NEW a/c compressor and he stated it didnt have any oil in it. He told me they send them dry, so be safe and drain whatever is in there, and Add 5-6oz of PAG 100 OIL. After sloshing around the compressor a bit, it seemed like it had oil in it. I took the caps off and poured out whatever was in there, hopefully pouring it all out, no idea, and added about 5 to 6 oz. The funny thing is, that I spilled alot of it when I was trying to fill it, trying to get it to the bottom of the compressor, kinda kept spraying out. I just really hope that I got all of the oil out that was in there, but how do I really know if I have enough and hopefully its not Over filled

here's the FSM procedure for determining compressor oil amount.

this assumes you had the correct amount to begin with, and are able to measure the amount you remove when you evacuated the system before removing the compressor.

if you don't know how much was in the system, and/or didn't measure how much came out with the evac, then you should start from scratch.

the total system capacity is 6.8fl oz. drain the compressor thoroughly, and add 6.6 oz (6.8 - 0.2 for the drier -- unless you also replace that). don't run the compressor until the system is properly recharged. make sure the shop completely evacuates and recovers all the old oil in the lines, etc (but not the compressor).

also, I know Dave B said PAG100. but I'm pretty sure the Nissan Type S spec is PAG46.

Oh hey skyjumper, thanks for ur bearing diagnostic i was able to get my a/c running few days ago.

Already put PAG100 oil in the compresser and its on the car...now what

it probably won't hurt it. it's just a viscosity thing. but seeing as how you just dropped >$300 on a new compressor, I'd be inclined to take it off, drain it, and put the right oil in. you're not running it, are you?

I havent started it up yet..just put it on today.
Any special way to drain it other than turning it upside down ?? Any trick on filling it ??

Drain it with the plug on the bottom and put in PAG46. Thicker oil cannot get to all the places thin oil can. So I would drain it. The FSM has an oil drain and replace procedure.

Spoke with a tech at Nissan, David B's guy thats been in the business for over 30 years and said PAG46 is for Ford compressors, different style and the PAG100 is for Nissan Compressors. He uses PAG100 in all the nissan compressors he works does and has done thousands of compressors. Its in there book as PAG100

Nissan uses several different compressor manufacturers including Hitachi and Calsonic. My understanding is that the CWV618 uses PAF46.

Maybe blow some compressed air through it into an empty cardboard box and see if any comes out? Then start from scratch? I don't think a slight touch of the PAG100 will harm anything.

matt, unfortunately Dave's tech is wrong on this one. I'm sure the guy knows his stuff, but he's been misinformed about the oil spec. it is true that there are several compressor models for the 4th gen, and it could be that not all of them use PAG46, but the Calsonic models for sure do. the label on your compressor should tell you what spec oil to use (mine says nissan type S, which is just nissan's name for PAG46).

The oil tpye thats printed on my compressor is DH-PS 180cm

i m sure ur fine matty. If he used PAG100 all this time w/o much fuss and complaints from customers i m pretty sure ur a/c will last a long long time.
