Parking Brake Mechanism siezed - any ideas ?

Hey all,

just got through a rear brake job and I noticed that my parking brake mechanism is somewhat siezed. THe part that is attached to the spring clip that releases the brake caliper when you let down the parking brake doesn't release when the brake off. I tried soaking it in WD-40 but still no luck. I can rotate it back and forth with a wrench, but it doesn't rotate freely by itself and is seems that the spring clip doesnt force it back when you release the brake. Is there a way to replace just that part of the brake caliper ? or am I looking at a new caliper ?

Thanks

I had that same problem and thought it was the spring, replaced the calipers and it somewhat solved the problem for about 3 days and even then it was not fulling releasing. Then i replaced the handbrake cable and that solved it.

I got a local shop to replace it for me for 40 bucks. Its not that hard to do if you can get underneath the car comfortably, its just removing bolts and replacing the cable and putting the bolts back in (from what i saw when they were replacing it).

Does the cable need to be replaced? Or can you remove it and run some lubricant through it?
