I have a 97 auto with 125k on it. When I have my car in park and the car started the rpm metter starts bobbing up and down between 500 and 1000 rpms. Sometimes it'll go under 500 and the engine will almost stall but it doesn't stall it jumps back to 700 rpms and start going crazy again.
What could be wrong? Could it be bad spark plugs? |

Originally posted by ionicmax It sounds to me that your car may need a tune up. If you haven't done the 60K mile service yet (spark plugs, filters, ect) then you might need to do this now. Good luck! Erik |
I got the 60k tune up at around 70k. I probably do need a tune up now. How much do you guys pay for 60k tune up. It cost me around $400.

could be a vacuum leak, too.
I've seen similar problems in my friends' cars and trucks, only to come to find out that the problem all along was just a disconnected vaccum hose. Even if you are not mechanically inclined at all, you can still look around at all the hose underneath the hood and make sure they are all attached to something, and look for tears/holes in the hoses while you are at it. You do need the tune up, though, so do that anyway, but this may keep you from being frustrated the next time you try to drive. Hope this has helped.
