yea...hes right, gxe's do kick as*.......you only have to spend over 1K to make em look as good as the se's but hes still right.........

GXEs are a good value

I am going to trade my SE wheels for the GXE hubcaps, any takers??? just kidding.

I think the GXE is a great value in that if you are going to mod the car, you save $$$ and you are making the same car with some mods.

SB97MAX Aug 15, 2001 08:31 AM

Well, since I have the same hub caps ill go ahead and say there great too! lol, Ive considered buying rims for my Max but prefer the sleeper look. Take Care

Sonic Aug 15, 2001 09:12 AM

Fuzzy pillars...

breaux124 Aug 15, 2001 09:25 AM

SE have nice little things that I've learned to love:

Body colored handles and trim around the windows
Spoiler
Large steering wheel

Besides I got a kick *** deal on my SE. Can you get a GXE with a sunroof? When I was looking for my Maxima, only the GLE's and SE's that I saw had sunroofs and this was something that I wanted.

Maximus97SE Aug 15, 2001 09:35 AM

The subject should be: "Another reason why GXEs owners should buy Altima SEs." I guess Nissan loves you GXE folks so much that the 2002 GXE only comes with auto trans. That is such a slap in the face for all GXE owners. The message Nissan is trying to send is that GXE owners should really be purchasing Altimas.

AndyXXL Aug 15, 2001 09:50 AM

mzmtg, you sig pic is kinda scary.

My GXE came with a sunroof.

blizz20oma Aug 15, 2001 03:28 PM

2002 GXE's are all auto? That's unfortunate.

When looking at maxis, the GXEs seemed a little too basic to me - I looked at a few, and the interior seemed really lacking compared to SEs I looked at. I never did take one out for a spin to see how the suspension compared to the SE. I know the engine is the same....but like I said, it felt basic, and the way I looked at it, if I was going to get a sedan, it was going to be as nice/flossy as I could find, stock (aka leather, wheels, little things the SE has that the GXEs dont...)

GLE's were out of the question from the start. To me, GLE's are for those middle-aged women you see rolling around in maxis that don't really care about what they're driving, as long as its got leather and fixins in the interior. Now that I hear the 2002 GXEs are all auto, that's another stab against the true "driver" that Nissan aims such cars as the Maxi SE, Sentra SE-R, and ye ole Z at. I dunno, the GXE always seemed to be catering to that "spend as little money as possible but still get this kind of car" crowd...(the same crowd that claims their car is faster because its lighter due to the lack of options seen in other trim levels :) ) If they make them all auto, they'll really be catering to the market. I just hope they keep making the SE with the same ideals as before - aiming for those drivers out there.

hummmmmmmmmmm.....how long it take you to make all that up?

iansw Aug 15, 2001 04:57 PM

Aha!

I bought a GXE...It has Cruise Contolr, Power Driver's Seat, Sunroof, etc....and I made them put on a spoiler before they could sell it to me.

And I had a friend that had just sold his SE with snow rims/tires on it, so i got his sotck SE 5-spoke Rims with Tires for $300!!!

And I bought Indiglos (White Guages).

Now my Max looks like an SE with a chrome package......

total cost: $362.00 (300 for rims, $62 for Indiglos)

Oops, forgot to mention i bought Tokico Shocks for $300, which i believe is what the SE's have to make their "better suspension"....

Ok...total is still well under $1000.....

Didn't want one. Less problems to deal with.

I don't even like the chrome package, but that's what makes every max unique is that everyone likes different things.

did not know that..........now i prob will def get these whenever i decide to buy my h&r springs

Will Max Aug 15, 2001 06:26 PM

I have a GXE, it has a sunroof and it also weighs less than your SE's and GLE's. BTW, if you wanted a spoiler on your GXE, I guarantee you the dealer will give it to you :). So, the only that GXE's don't have that some of the SE owners would probably replace anyway are the rims and head unit.

Not quite. The OEM struts for all the 4th gens are made by Tokico. They are not the same as the Premium Performance struts that they sell aftermarket. Dont get the two confused. Also, they suck ***. Dont get them. I have em and they bounce like a mofo. Save up for Konis or wait for AGXs...

How is it lighter? And how much lighter?

The three cars are the same except for rims, trim level, and other minor details. So how is a GXE ligher?

How? Hahaha, leather seats, rims, sound unit, they add 50+ pounds

iansw Aug 16, 2001 01:42 PM

Ummmmmm..

Se's don't have leather Seats,Sunroof, or Bose systems by default.

This is what they DO have, as I understand it.:

Ummmmmm..

Se's don't have leather Seats and a Sunroof by default.

Unicolor (no chrome)
5-spoke 16" Rims
Leather Wrapped Steering Wheel and Shifter
Stiffer Shocks/Suspension
Fogs
White Guages
No speed governor.

Everything else is an add-on....Leather Seats, Sunroof, and Bose Systems for sure are add-ons....The GLE has leather and Bose by default.

I'm pretty sure the SE doesn't weigh more with the standards, and nothing else.

Hey Newbie
My SE maxima doesn't have leather. The stereo when I bought it was non-Bose, same as a GXE. And my rims probably weight very close to the stock GXE steel wheels.

** So GXE's are not lighter than ALL SE's.

Now are you going to tell me that it's heavier cause I have a spoiler? Or maybe my sunroof makes it heavier too.
It's ok though, cause my SE doesn't have a speed limiter.

Weasel Aug 16, 2001 04:10 PM

SEs and GLEs have liquid-filled engine mounts also...

:wall:

cls3007 Aug 16, 2001 05:52 PM

Come now maxima owners, we must stop fighting amongst ourselves and remember who the enemy is!!! Ummm..., who is the enemy anyway?

Will Max Aug 16, 2001 06:15 PM

Are you telling me SE's weigh the same as GXE's, please go to the dealer and ask them yourselves. I can't believe you guys are evening arguing about this, and calling me a newbie? Please, check the specs. Take the rims off and yeah you may and probably will have the weight of a GXE.

I have a GXE.. I originally was set out to get a 97-99 SE w/ sunroof. I saw SEs selling for 13-14 grand, I got my GXE for less then 11 and I have a sunroof, and the convenience package..... I don't mind the chrome door handles really. I will change the grille, add fogs, get 17's and keep the 15's for the winter. Get window tint and add factory spoiler and leather seats eventually.. Then I have an SE or better, in my opinion... Only things that are worth extra $ if you are set out to mod a car well is ABS brakes. Everything else can be added, a sunroof is preferable stock as well since it costs too much to get an aftermarket one..

Now, about what Weasel mentioned... does anyone have more info? What is the benefit of having liquid filed engine mounts? More durable? How much are engine mounts?

Sprint Aug 16, 2001 09:08 PM

like i said the last time..

my GXE cost as it is now cost about how much they wanted to charge me for an SE

now.. which would you prefer? MY GXE? or a bone stock SE?

you choose ;)

do i have to go through my list of mods? or you guys going to keep arguing and justifying your SE purchase?

Weasel Aug 16, 2001 09:17 PM

No idea what the benefit is, I would assume they help make the idle feel smoother. BTW According to Motor Trend 2/95 they are "electronically controlled" liquid filled engine mounts and are indeed only on SE and GLE models (I have my little Maxima library here at my parents' house :)). Anyone have any f*cking idea why the motor mounts are electronically controlled? :gotme:

The mount is electronically controlled in order to smooth engine vibrations when the engine is idling.

The electronically controlled front engine mount has two settings, soft and hard. The Engine Control Module causes the mount to use the soft setting when the engine is idling and switches to the hard setting when engine speed exceeds 2K rpm and the vehicle is moving.

DBM/anyone that knows - can you feel this switch at all? I notice a little feel/noise directly at 2K rpms, which is a range I'm usually right around. Just curious.

GXE, SE, GLE....we all have nice cars. Personally I'd rather have a car come with extraneous options rather than order/install them myself, but I know a lot of people disagree. The biggest plus or minus to me across the board is the option of 5-speed or auto. Gotta have that control :)

Sprint Aug 17, 2001 06:46 AM

this thread is about GXE.. last time i checked.. my GXE was a 5spd?

In the '99 models the electronically controlled liquid-filled front engine mount was standard on the GLE and optional on the automatic-transmission SE. Therefore, no 5-speed '99 model has it. I assume, but do not know, the same is true for your '95.

Sonic Aug 17, 2001 08:06 AM

There is no 4th gen manual with the computer controlled mounts. BTW, ever notice that us GLE people never get into these rather common 'GXE vs. SE' wars? Yes, I would die for a 5 speed (not offered on the GLE), but my fuzzy pillars more than make up for it. Yeah, right...

yeah, but your fuzzy pillars, pop-out drawer, wood trim and standard auto climate control surely more than make up for the lack of a 5 spd...

no it really doesn't

Maximus97SE Aug 17, 2001 08:23 AM

Come to think of it, have you seen any Nissan ads that feature a GXE or GLE. Gee, I wonder why??

Sonic Aug 17, 2001 08:24 AM

Hmm, wanna bet, Sprint? Actually, I'm looking for another '95 with a five speed, sunroof and Bose and I'll put in the popout drawer, fuzzy pillars and wood trim. I really am. Don't think I'll put the body kit on it though, I want to be able to drive it during the winter.
