I just installed a friends indiglo's tonight, and we were both having a debate on types of lights/bulbs/types of rewires to do.
I want a bright white light, maybe a lil blueish. There are some Sylvannia Cool Blue's that are a nice color, and brightess, but the corners don't match. I wanna know what kinda bulbs I can use there, and how to get the rewire done to where it is alot brighter. Also, is there a way to blink each light simultaneously? The lenses below those? I would love for the side markers to blink, and not the front ones if at all possible. Any information, or links would help out alot!!!!!!!!! I have a soldering iron, heat gun, some acrylic lense........I am just ready to attack some projects........... |
Howto rewire your blinkers to alternate
Well, for starters, the bulbs in the turn signals is 1156, and the bulbs in the bumperlight is 156. What you can do is get new bulbs for all 3 lights, including your cornerlights (next to headlight) so they match. As far as rewiring them:
http://www.maximadriver.com has a howto on how to redo your blinkers to alternate with your bumperlights when the lights are on, and blink the turn signal and bumperlight at the same time when the lights are off. To do this you just take out both your bumper light and turn signal and cut the negative wire (black wire) on the bumper light, and rewire it to splice into the positive wire on the turn signal (it'll be either a green or red color, the black is always ground), be sure you CUT the negative on the bumper light, this way you don't blow a fuse by sending current to the ground of the bumperlight. Be sure to read the howto at maximadriver before you do the mod, it has basically the same information as I've given you, but there are instructions on howto remove the corner light and rewire it to make it brighter, and also how to remove the bumper and turn signal housings (see installing clear corners). Goodluck with the rewiring job and read up on maximadriver.com. Cheston has tons of info on his website, it's a great resource to have. |
I checked out Cheston's site, and it completely ROCKED. Even the FAQ was bad ***.
I am following those steps tomorrow. He even has the correct specified bulbs to purchase there. Only problem would be to find a suitable place to buy all matching bulbs. My girlfriend is buying me the O.E. foglight kit, and I am gunna be adding that to the car soon. Maybe I can keep the fog light bulbs the same since they are bright anyway. Thanx for the recommendation. |
I would probably say, replace all the bulbs at the same time and from the same company, so they match in hue and brightness. I personally like Polarg bulbs, but I have PIAA headlight and foglights, so they match, the rest of my bulbs are gonna be Polarg. I just rewired my blinkers from the directions at maximadriver and also did the corner lights to run the second filament instead of the first one, making them brighter now. Everything is working fine, I'm waiting for my local car audio shop to get matching xenon bulbs for all my lights exept for headlights and fogs.
But it's your call, I would say get foglight bulbs to match your headlights. Goodluck! |
