I was wondering if anybody has noticed and difference between the pacesetter and the smc shifters. With the price difference of being about half for the pacesetter I just want to make sure it is not a piece of crap. Thanks for any info.

Big job?

This is somethign that I think I might go for eventually? Is it a big job overall or is it another one that with the right tools is basicly a bolt on?

If you have thr ight tools and are slightly mechanically inclined, short throws are fairly easy to install.

How do you get the stock shift knob off in the first place? Does it unscrew or is it glued on or something of that sort?

It is screwed in, but there is some glue in there. Just have to twist real hard to get the glue to break.

Well I found the Pacesetter at NOPI for I around $56(i think). I never knew that the same company was behind them, from what I've seen and talked to it is not that bad, just take your time and make sure that everything goes back correctly.

Shortchaz,

What shift knob is that? I love it... I want just a simple big black knob. And thanks for the NOPI tip...I think I'll bite but will get a shift knob with it. Are the threads/diameter for sticks standardized for knobs or do I need a universal one that you screw into place?

Thanks,
Mishmosh

Its a Ractive that just screws into place, it comes with three different sized rubber caps to go over the threads and then you place the knob over the cap and screw it down, I got it at a local store so I am not real sure where you might be able to get one off the net, I haven't seen one yet, everybody I've looked at has the other brands of knobs, but no ractive, maybe I was just looking in the wrong spot.

Shift Knob

Are they all the same size or do you have to get specific ones? Also how do you secure the new ones on?

That is good to hear! I don't think I could get the cat off myself either. Hopefully, it can be done with it left on for my 4th gen. If not, I may have to visit my local Meineke who can loosen up the bolts and may even be able to install the darn thing (they do minor auto work).

What surprises me after pricing out the knob is why the heck they are so expensive! Around $60-80. That to me is insane... Definitely want to buy in person if I'm paying that much so at least I can see it live and if doesn't fit, I can always get a quick return.

See www.sportscar-parts.com ! Their prices are average but they have alot of nice knobs. I've purchased from them and have received my pkg. in a week.

Just make sure to get one that is universal and you will have no problem. Mine was $40 at a local store, it has three allen screws that attatch at the base and "hold" onto the rubber cap.
