What would be a good 1/4 time for a 96 auto with CAI and cattman y-pipe? Also, how much time is gained in the 1/4 mile from adding a y-pipe?
|
MegaMax can hit 15.4 with just a HAI, so 15.3? Answer to the second question, I'll find out.

There must be something wrong with my max I've got a CAI and Y-pipe and could not do better than a 16.1
|
There could be a whole host of reasons why. The wheel diameter and weight, weight in the car, intake, exhaust, a knock sensor issue, low compression and track conditions all come into play. That were the track conditions?

It was pretty cool about 70 degrees and falling into the low 60's before I left. What's a knock sensor?
|
A knock sensor is effectively a electronic microphone used by the cars computer to check for 'knock' or pre-detonation from your cylinders. Pre-detonation is bad, it screws up the smooth running of the engine. The knock sensor may pick up the 'knock'' and then what it does is retards the timing of the engine to 'eliminate' the knocking. This leads to a loss in power, how much I am not too sure of. Track times were acceptable. You do have 17"s, those make a difference. Go back when it was cooler, and try brake torquing (holding the gas for a short while with the brake applied), just before takeoff. What was your trap speed, 85?

With those 2 mods (assuming your tranny is still shifting fine & at almost sea level) you should be 15.4-15.3. I wouldnt expect anything better.
The Y-pipe on autos usually knock off between .2-.3 tenths off your 1320. |
