Are the KYB GR2's durable?
 

I dont want or need strut adjustability, so I think I'm just gonna get the GR2's, since they are cheaper. But I dont know if they were intended as OEM replacements or for aftermarkets.

According to the guys here, the tokiko's will start going out after 10,000 miles and that is not good.

Will the GR2's hold up okay with HR,B&G or Sprint springs?

I guess I can call tirerack and ask the sales person, but I dont think they know as much as the experts we got on this board.

heh i've had my tokico's for more than 10,000 and they feel brand new. Maybe because all i do is drive up and down a freshly paved parkway everyday :D

Go with AGX. Why mess around with lesser quality struts? Good thing with adjustable struts are...as they get older, you can turn up the stiffness. It will be like riding on brand new struts again.

The GR2s are OEM replacement. The quality of the KYBs are excellent so you shouldn't have any worries. If anything does happen, it should be covered under warranty.

I've got the KYB GR2s on the rears. I've had these installed for over 1.5 years and 20K miles and they are still stiff even after riding under a 1.7+" drop the whole time. They are a bit stiffer than the factory SE shocks. Don't waste your money of the Toks. People bad mouth the KYB GR2s because very few of us use them. Many assume the cheaper GR2 price mean they're lower quality than the Toks. That kind of statement couldn't be more wrong.

no offense to the members of this forum but I've noticed what you mentioned. People post replies about third-party info, "I heard.." stuff. There's a decent amount of misinformation being spread.

I noticed this also... in considering lowering my car I look at all the threads about shocks, and I've never heard a firsthand account of GR2s getting soft and floaty like the many I have heard from Tokico owners.

I have KYB GR2 on both front and rears. They are stiffer than my friends SE stock suspension. After 20K on cr@**y roads, they are still extremely stiff. Much stiffer than stock suspension. But now my car corners much better :naughty:

What kind of springs are you using them with?

Just stock springs.

I got the gr2s all around. No, they dont get soft after some use, and they are pretty stiff compared to the SE oem shocks. I'm using them with apex springs (which is about a 1.7" drop), and so far I havent had any problems. Love the way the car handles right now.

I have had KYB GR2's on 2 vehicles now, including my maxima, and I like them just fine. When I removed my stock struts and put on the GR2s, I tested the bump and rebound of them, and they certainly had more damping ability than the stock struts, however this may be because the stock struts were old and worn out. I am using them with GC coilovers, which are in most cases the stiffest springs you will find for the Maxima, and they do a good job of damping. Perhaps a little underdamped, but then again most people don't have springs as stiff as I do so for others they would work like a charm. Since you will be using stock springs they would work great.

well... i have a 96 se ... and the rear struts are gone... i dont want to drop my car casue im gonna be goion up to college soon and the roads in talli arent that great... so i was thinking what would be good replacements for the OEM struts?... i dont want to go to stiff considering i want to keep the smooth nice gliding ride the se has... thanks alot....
