I'm beginning to think this new engine is a lemon.....

First I had the oil problem, that's fixed but now the car gets no fuel to the engine, it shuts off on me at every light and sputters to move, I literraly had to restart the car about 10 times to try to get home, the car struggles to start and when it does start it immediately shuts back off once I press the gas...

What could be the problem? Should I just go ahead and get a refund? I bought the engine for 500 but first it was the oil leak, now its the fuel.....

Should I just get damn payments and say **** these old cars?

is the CEL on? if so, what are the codes?

Scott LaRock Sep 26, 2007 10:55 PM

First two are easy and not too expensive. The third one...I dunno man. I'm not CEL specialist but that doesn't sound good. Is this an engine from a dealer? Bring it back to them if it is. It's most likely something someone forgot to plug in maybe?

That last code will probably turn out to be the root of most of your problems. If the torque converter isn't unlocking when you come to a stop, it will be like you came to a stop in gear without pressing on the clutch. If the TCM is messed up, this could be the problem.

Did you go from auto to manual or something?

a used 10 year old engine isnt a lemon. do you know what a lemon is?

moogotzskillz2 Sep 27, 2007 06:53 AM

How miles is on the new motor? that u got?

and have u done a tune up on it yet? or cleand the Iacv and tb?

elemax Sep 27, 2007 07:17 AM

yeah it doesnt sound like the engine is a "lemon."

-The speed sensor code and the transmission control unit signal to ecu code are most likely related- make sure the speed sensor is properly installed and plugged in, check the plug and wiring too. Once you resolve the vss issue, both of these codes will go away.

-make sure the coolant temp sensor is plugged in and the wiring is ok. If it appears good, you can test the sensor to see if its good. If its not, its cake to replace.

72000 miles, I30 engine that went into a maxima....

My mechanic installed the motor, a tow truck is coming for the car right now to be towed back over to the shop, I'm calling the place I bought the engine at.

XJinCT Sep 27, 2007 10:53 AM

ok listen. the engine runs, the engine is fine. youve had it running. its fuel delivery...aka...not the engine at fault. tell your mechanic to learn basic mechanics and figure out wtf is up. they are going to tell you to pound sand, the place you bought it from.

nhaven Sep 27, 2007 02:22 PM

It sounds like an ECTS problem.

Why did you start a new thread?
Your problem as stated before is not engine related. An engine is an engine. All the electronics and accessories that were known good on your car should have been changed over before the install ( on the stand ). If you or your mechanic doesn't do that and cheaps out on no install kit you can end up with a cluster f**k of problems.
You should be able to get the parts you need to fix the car off your old engine(if it's still there), but the one to pay for it will probably be you.
